From Hankook K106 to Toyo Proxes 4
Just went through a set of Hankook k106 from Les Schwab in less than 20k miles. They were good tires plenty of grip, but probably a little more harsh of a ride than most would want to put up with. Tracking was very tight and steering response was spot on. Snow, forget about it, Rain was great no hydroplaning at all even in the NW torrential storms at high speed.
What did I replace them with? Well after trying the "Schwab special" (federal 427 or something) and took them back after 10 miles due to sloppy handling (boating all over on the freeway... the thought of an emergency maneuver scared the hell out of me while going 65...), and then ponied up for the Proxes 4.
Wow. What a difference. They have better if not the same tight handling characteristics as the Hankooks, but somehow don't slam on manhole covers or potholes like the Hankooks would. They are buttery smooth, responsive, predicable, and quiet. Haven't had any rain under them yet, but so far well worth the 165.00 mounted at the Schwab Tire sale.
