Are you worried about winter traction?

What size wheels/tires do you currently have?

lanceburton, if your not worried about performance and handling above and beyond normal driving then depending on where you live, all season tires are recommended. this would reduce the need to change tires as the seasons change. if you want to maximize safety in an area that sees moderate to significant snowfall then you would have to change over to snow/winter tires for that time period.

get oem size tires if you still run stock wheels that have a speed rating of at least H and for longevity, a tire with rated tread life of at least 400.

on the hunt in alaska

Thanks for all the helpful information in this thread . . .

so, I live in Alaska and drove my 2004 mazda 6 up here this summer.

i need to put studded snow tires on it. it has snowed like, 6 feet already this winter.

i currently have (stock, i think) hankook 205/60/r16 tires on it, but they are for smooth city driving, and aren't worth a hoot in the snow.

i'm scouring craigslist to find a set of studded tires on the cheap, but all the sizes i'm finding are just slightly outside the range of the OP.

i've found some that are:
225/60/r16
215/65/r16

is there no possibility of using r15 tires? i think that might mess with the spedometer a little bit . . . but would it be doable? i don't care much if my spedometer says 35 and i'm actually going 33 or 37.

thanks!

215 > 205?

ALSO,

if i found a set of 215/60/r16

but not on rims, would they fit on my stock rims currently holding 205/60/r16 tires?

please say yes

Yes!

The 215/60s should fit on the stock rims, no problem. In fact, of the sizes you mentioned, I'd prefer 215/60 over the others.

Wondering...

MS6 wheels on a 2007 M6 with 225/45/18...

this should work fine right?

Fender issues are..a non-issue as theyre rolled from a previous set up.

What about the suspension and brakes end of things? wouldnt these sit closer because of a 225 tire?

Any insight would help
