Count me in for this.
1) Gives me a great excuse to put aside some time to visit all my friends in the North East.
2) My boss cornered me the other day and said I was the only one with more PTO than she had so I should take a vacation.
3) Somebody has to represent for 2nd gens.
18 Hour drive here I come!

I don't remember how far back in the thread it was, but someone inquired about lodging choices. I have personally stayed in and can vouch for:

North Conway Hotels | North Conway Grand Hotel | NH
Can be a bit pricey, but keep an eye on their site as they often run specials. Excellent place to stay though. Have stayed 3 or 4 times and it has been top notch every time.

Green Granite Inn, a North Conway Hotel
Stayed here once when the above hotel was full. Not bad, but not as nice as ^^^. Perfectly acceptable accommodations, just not as nice.

The Seasons Condominium Resort - Affordable Family Resort in Mt.Washington Valley
This is condo resort and could be an unbeatable value if some want to travel as a group. They are all individually owned so your mileage may vary, but the unit we stayed in was great except for the limited supply of hot water. (If you don't take 3 showers back-to-back it was fine.) The clubhouse/gameroom/indoor pool area is a bit dated but everything was functional when we went last December. Rates of 130/night for a 2-bedroom becomes very easy to swallow when you start dividing it up. And you get the option of bringing your own food if you don't want to eat out. It's north of North Conway, but actually puts you a bit closer to the Auto Road (23 vs. 34 minutes according to GoogleMaps)

North Conway is THE place to kill time in the off hours as there's lots of restaurants, shopping, and other activities. It's not too far from the base of the Auto Road and the drive between the two is nice. Someone mentioned Mount Washington Cog Railway - Climb to the Top of Mount Washington on the world's first mountain-climbing Cog Railway trains! and I will just chime in with this: EXPENSIVE! Priced to match the steep grade of the Jacob's ladder trestle (300' long at a grade of 37.41%) at $62 per adult. Don't get me wrong it's a good once-in-a-lifetime trip, but it is on the other side of the mountain from where most will be staying (55 minutes) and I didn't want to have someone drive all that way only to have a coronary due to sticker shock.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS EVENT!!! We take a trip to the summit at least once per year. The auto road is a really sweet drive. Let's just pray for clear skies (the summit is in the clouds 60% of the time) and light winds (hurricane force winds occur roughly 33% of the time).

Steve - thx for updating the list. Its awesome that this is only about a week old & its already 1/2 way to amount needed.

Hotmix - thx for that great info. The seasons resort sounds like the best bet since justsomeguy & myself will be travelling together so we can go splits on one of their 2 bedroom set-ups.
