Fr Wheel Hub/Bearing repl

Hi all, after sliding on ice and hitting a curb with the side of the fr wheel it sounds like a hub or bearing is shot. I put that wheel on the rear and the noise didn't go away. I'm in for a new wheel as mine is likely warped.

Any advice on replacing? What's involved, special tools etc? Also, advice on repl part other than Mazda OEM.

Thank you

Hang on - Make sure it's not just the wheel's fault. If you're pretty sure the wheel is bent/warped, then it won't matter where you put it, you'll still hear/feel something is off.

Swap the spare tire on instead of the potentially problematic wheel and see what happens. If you're still getting a noise, you've busted something else.

I would take it to a tire shop and have them see if they can identify that the wheel is taco'd. If that's the case, start seeking a new wheel first and then have it aligned. If you still have an issue with noise after that, then I'd say you might need to have a shop take a much closer look.

As for the bearing, on a FWD car, they are usually a press fit application and thus, one usually needs to take the knuckle that holds to bearing to a shop and have them press out the old and put in the new. Not expensive to have done, but it is time consuming to get the knuckle out.

Can you elaborate on the noise? What is it exactly you're hearing, rubbing? flapping? metal grinding? Start with the easiest and have a tire shop balance/spin check your wheel.

Also, I don't think it's the wheel bearing but I could be wrong so don't hold me to it. I've had a similar accident but sounds like mines was far worse. Both wheels, rods, control arms, tires, end links, etc.. gave out completely during my accident. After all was said and done and everything was repaired; there was nothing done to the wheel bearing or it wasn't replaced and it drove fine after that.

However, if you do suspect it being your wheel bearing; it is somewhat easy to identify if you kind of know what you are looking for. Rule of thumb is to obviously make sure it is not the wheel or tire causing the issue first. A lot of times the wheel bearing can feel like a badly balanced wheel/tire. I wont go into detail on how to diagnose this since there is a lot of articles you can find online about it.

Last thought.. keep in mind impacts like this affects the left side also. The whole system is connected via the axle, end links, sway links, bars, joints, etc.. so pay attention to where the actual noise is coming from. It may be a component from the other side too.
