Tried Meguiar's Clay Bar Kit (Pics)

We bought a used 2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring in Soul Red on Monday.

Could tell it had been sitting out on the lot awhile so I decided to give the clay bar kit from Meguiar's a shot.

I have to admit I had my doubts, I've clayed cars before so it wasn't anything new. It's just a two step process but I added a step buy buffing the car out after with Xydol wax.

See the attached before and after pics, the haze is gone and the color is now deep.

I'm even surprised how well it comes across in the pictures. Don't think I need to show you which is the before and after.

Dang.....need to find the time to do this on mine. I have the buffer and compound just waiting but home ownership takes over most of the time.

I use surfacing mitts, basically a clay bar equivalent but reusable in case you drop it. Also being washable, a stray contaminant doesn't scratch the surface as easy. They are expensive initially (like $50 with a "combo" usually including lube or a car wash that serves as one), but I had my first one last 3 solid years of routine use before showing any signs of failure. So, they are my go-to from now on.

Discovered the magics of claybarring myself. Takes off road tar and bugs with ease. Great for cleaning the side skirts and wheel well/flap areas.

Lanson, don't use the whole bar when clay barring did you? I tear off a meatball sized piece and can do my entire car. If you drop it, you don't lose the whole bar.

I've used clay before but I'm sure you guys know it can be such a pain at times.

Meguiar's really simplified the process with this kit.

Of course it takes time, I did the hood / roof / trunk on Saturday then did the sides / nose / rear on Sunday.

I was out of Pinnacle wax so I used Zymol with my 10" orbital buffer. I apply and removed the wax with the buffer.

Car is at Mazda now (they gave me a CX-3 rental) getting the rims refinished. The black on the 19" Grand touring rims took over and they look dirty all the time. They covered it under warranty.
