NY2018 Build

Many thanks to user idrive for posting details of their build! I'm new here and used many of his details on parts and wheel sizes etc. Super glad for the forum here and everyone's experience and expertise. Thanks!

My goal for the car is a more sport aggressive look with tighter handling, but still looking basically factory. As if there were a mazdaspeed6 for 2018. I'm starting with a black signature 2018. I'd do power upgrades if there were good ones out there focusing on handling mostly so far, super open to suggestions for power upgrades.

Mods complete so far:
1. Black foam to cover the heads up display in the front dash - I can't seem to get it to turn off permanently in the settings.

2. additional subwoofer and amplifier. Specifically a JL10W6 in a sealed box in the trunk and a JL amp under the drivers seat, running at a speaker level input through a sub volume knob put in the cubby just in front of the gear shift.

3. Strut tower bar

4. Rear sway bar
https://ultraracing-usa.com/mazda-6-...oll-sway-19mm/

5. Lowering springs
https://www.sparktecmotorsports.com/...13807109791991

6. Wheels and tires
Konig Ultraform - Size: 19×8.5 PCD: 5×114.3 Offset: 45 part number: UFA9514456
https://konigwheels.com/wheels/flow-...els/ultraform/
FIRESTONE FIREHAWK INDY 500 XL 255/40R-19

Still to do: paint the chrome trim gloss black to match the B pillars and remove the two small rear badges, possible addition of sound deadening in trunk and doors for car audio reasons.

The pic here is yesterday just after a hard drive. I'm going to post a few more pics below. Wheelspin is down with the additional rubber and it rides as smooth as it did before but is a bit more jarring over potholes and small bumps with the car lower. It feels a lot tighter and more solid than before, but I haven't driven it very much with the new suspension and tires that only went on a couple of days ago.

I'd suggest upgrading your struts to bilstein's while you have your suspension taken apart. add a front sway bar too.

good choice on the tires. they are too wide for an 8.5" wheel though.

Ok, this may qualify as the stupidest upgrade photo ever. This is a thin piece of black foam covering the display projector part in the dash for the heads up display. I can't seem to figure out how to get the display to turn off permanently. Turning it off in settings on the touchscreen just turns it off for one ignition cycle. I don't want it in my vision all the time and I don't want to turn it off every time I start the car. I turned down the brightness and the angle and it works for a few cycles of the ignition, but always comes back. The dealer I bought from asked his service department and they didn't have a solution either.

Thus the foam. Low glare! Easy to install! Stops the heads up display of my speed on the glass.

If someone knows how to disable this in the settings, please advise!

This upgrade photo is only slightly less impressive than the last one. Sorry.

It sounds amazing though. It's a JL10W6 in a sealed box in the trunk. It runs on speaker level inputs and the factory Bose system. I've got an extra volume knob just for the sub in the small well behind the gearshift. There's a 600 watt RMS JL amp mounted under the drivers seat.

The sub sounds great with the Bose system. Moves most of the molecules in my body at one time with good bass hits. At the max volume my ears can handle I do need some sound deadening in the trunk and some in the doors. I'll get to that at some point soon.

I think I need to bolt it down better and/or take it out if I autocross or track the car.

Get Inline,
I'll consider the bilstiens next time I have the wheels off. I had them on a miata years ago so it would be cool just for old times sake. The springs have already been swapped out though, so I missed the chance to do it easily.

The tires are a bit wide for the wheels. They fit though thankfully, I hope the mismatch isn't too much of a problem.

I'll have the factory wheels back on the car with winter tires in a couple of months.

Really? How did you feel on your miata? Firm, but comfortable and compliant? did you like them?

The bilstiens were factory on a 1993 LE Miata that I had in 2000. That car was tight on the road for sure, but harsh on the road. Harsher than my current 6 on the NF210s and the current wheel/tires for sure. It may have been because that car was on thinner rubber though. I can't recall the exact wheel size...

A good friend still owns that car in Washington and I'd love to buy it back some day, but that's a different thread.

Need more pics!!!

Also, as we know the tires are a perfect fit for those wheels. Don't let someone that has no idea what he's talking about tell you otherwise. We both know from experience how perfect they fit and handle. Lets hope he doesn't muddy up your thread.

Again, nice work. Now you have me thinking about an amp and sub!!

Got the car back from the body shop. Super happy with the result!

They removed, sanded and painted gloss black all of the chrome trim with the exception of the rear emblem. They also removed the two smaller rear badges.

I got lucky with the wheel selection and the color very closely matches the front grill on the Signature.

The front emblem they removed and put a black tint coat on before reinstalling. The look seems pretty factory and you can just make out the Mazda emblem underneath pretty well.

I included several shots of the wheels and tires to show the fit of the wheel/tire pairing.

I think I will end up removing and either tinting the rear emblem to match the front one or making it gloss black to match the other trim. The paint on the trim matches the B pillar and not the black fleck paint of the main body work of the car which I think works really well.
