NWARC Advanced Driving Clinic and HPDE Lapping - Nov. 18, 2018
Full disclosure: I am in no way associated with the NW Alfa club.
They are just a cool group of people who put on the advanced driving clinic's and lapping events. I am signed up for the drivers clinic which I also participated in about 8 years ago. They go over some very cool car control education to teach you some basics which are necessary on track yet also translate to public roadways.
If you are interested in learning how to enter/exit a skid safely, proper sight lines, hand position, throttle steering and get more acclimated with your car at the limits (which are intentionally reduced through wetting track surfaces) in a safe fashion, this is a great event for you!

As we head into the winter season the NW Alfa Romeo Club would like to promote safe and confident driving by offering another one of our popular Driver Skills and Car Control courses on November 18 at Pacific Raceways. This is an annual driving event open to all drivers with all types of vehicles, particularly those newly minted teen drivers and folks with newly purchased vehicles. The intent of the course is to provide skills exercises that reinforce "heads-up" driving, improved car control skills and techniques, understanding of balance and weight transfer, and understanding of car/systems capabilities and limits. We encourage those drivers who feel timid or nervous behind the wheel (perhaps due to involvement in a collision), those who have recently purchased a new vehicle (perhaps it's more powerful or larger than what you've owned before), newly licensed teen drivers and pre-licensed teens with Driver's Permits, and drivers who simply want to have some fun learning new skills or practicing the skills they've already learned from previously attending this course. There will also be an HPDE/Lapping event offered in the afternoon for more experienced drivers.
The course will be offered on Sunday, November 18 from 8:30am-11:30am at Pacific Raceways in Kent. Some of the exercises will be set up in the parking lot and some will be on the race track. There will be no driving or "lapping" on the race track during this course, it's strictly a skills-based course with fixed exercises stations around the facility. We will not use helmets or any additional safety equipment, as the speeds will be slow/moderate and maneuvers will be contained to the controlled exercise areas.
Exercises will include:
- Slalom - this promotes high eyesight, smooth controls, and understanding of lateral weight transfer
- Braking - focus is on the ABS system, braking limits, and eyesight
- Collision Avoidance - one of the most valuable skills that focuses on eyesight, reflexes, and smoothness of inputs
- Emergency Lane Change - another valuable skill focused on vision, reflexes, and car control
- Skid Pad and Figure8 - a fun exercise that allows drivers to feel "understeer" and "oversteer" in real-time, lateral balance, and (mild) g-forces
We will have a short classroom introduction and discussion prior to the driving exercises, and instructors will be helping drivers through the skills exercises from inside and outside the cars. Instructors are also available for dedicated one-on-one help if needed. The course will be taken in your daily driver vehicle, so please be sure to check the condition of you vehicle before attending. Please visit our sponsor PROVA Motorsports for a professional safety check of your vehicle and for any service that might be required (Prova Motorsports).
The afternoon HPDE/Lapping event will follow the driving clinic from Noon to 5pm. Both of these events will sell out quickly, so register right away to secure your spot: msreg.com/nwarcNov18CCC. Cost is $95 per driver for Car Control, and $175 for HPDE/Lapping.
Please don't hesitate to call or email me directly if you have any questions about this event.

9 cars and 2 parking spots, this doesn't make any sense.
