Maxima is a different class of car. Maxima has a face only a mother could love. Maxima has a CVT that makes one wish for death while driving it. Maxima doesn't have the road manners of the 6. Altima is all of that and less. Drove one of the rentals in question a couple of years ago and was left emotionless. Transportation, nothing more.

and the 6 is exciting to drive?
The first time I test drove it, I was disappointed at how slow it is, but I liked the looks and features, so I bought it
Only reason you don't see the 6 in rentals, is because is a vehicle that doesn't come from a brand known for super reliability. Not only that, people don't forget the Mazda/Ford relationship. The regular average folk, would rather rent a Toyota, Nissan, Honda over everything else, because they have the reputation of being more reliable than all other brands, even though, this is not the case anymore. It is irrelevant if the Mazda 6 is just as reliable as Camry. Companies and business will cater to what most people prfer. Whether these people are stupid or ignorant enough to fall for the Toyota myth, is also irrelevant. Companies do things that makes them money.
The Mustang and Camaro are on rentals too and these are not only way faster, but much more exciting to drive and to look, get more attention, etc than a family sedan from Mazda.
So, no, the Mazda 6 is not on rental because is so cool and unique, is because the average joe doesn't care about Mazda. Nobody would choose the Mazda 6 on the rental places, when they have the Camry, Altima, Accord and they believe these vehicles to be more reliable.
