2016 Mazda 6 Grand Touring Apps

Are there any cool or must have apps that I can get on the infotainment system? If so, how? Thanx in advance.

2016 is an odd year because they swapped out systems from the integrated TomTom NB1 to the 'popup' Mazda - which one do you have?

If it's the TomTom, I'm sorry but you're pretty much out of luck. Here's everything I've found out about customizing it: https://forum.mazda6club.com/electri...on-scheme.html

As for if you have the Mazda infotainment, Mazda3Revolution guys have put a lot of time and effort into this: https://mazda3revolution.com/forums/...t-project.html and this https://mazda3revolution.com/forums/...a-connect.html

I think most of those posts would have worked if I hadn't updated my Mazda connect infotainment to the newest version. Most of those work with the version I had before the update. The update is just a month old so I guess I'll have to wait for new tweaks

For the AIO install at least only the serial installation method has worked for a few years now.

Some individual tweaks may work on newer firmware alone, though none I know of.

I'm curious of what firmware you're on, as in the US at least the latest, "month-old"-ish is firmware is 70.000.335C and no tweaks have worked unless you already had access or used the serial port to gain access since 59.XXX.XX and greater.

How do you update the infotainment software without having to go to the dealer?

You need a flash drive, a PC, the firmware files, and about 40-60 minutes of time to sit in your car doing almost nothing (yes you are actually trapped in your car as you can't open your doors during the update, according to the official instructions at least).

The short of it is that you use the doors and locks to get the car into an update mode with the flash drive in, select a few options on your touch screen, and then wait while the update installs and hit the brake petal (clutch in a manual like you have) periodically to keep the car from turning off automatically. The engine can't be running during the update either so make sure all electronics are off and if you battery is older or weak you should use a trickle charger during it.

The firmware files and official installation instructions (PDF) can be found here: https://my.hidrive.com/share/hsodpqja.l#$/Mazda_Firmware

Go under the folder for your region.

I've done it once already and it really wasn't at all bad, other than the fact it killed my battery (it was pretty old though and I wasn't using a trickle charger), just take it slow so you don't miss a step or do something your not supposed to. The instructions are pretty clear.

I'm pretty sure all 2016/2017s have the first version of the newer headunit, though there was a slight update to the 2016 mid-year so it is possible some of the earlier 2016s didn't have it.

Thank you for the help! A little tedious but certainly not hard.
