Hi. As always, I appreciate your help! Newbie section. That's me!
2005 Mazda 6i with 200k miles and a lot else going on with the car. I'm having fun trying to fix it slowly though.
I have an oil leak from the drain plug (oil3.jpg). Though this appears to be an easy fix, I have read too much and am now confused about the best sequence to go about fixing it. Should I...
1) Try a new gasket / crush washer with current plug?
2) Hope a new fumoto oil plug fixes it?
3) Attempt a self tapping piggyback plug somehow...
4) Buy a self tapping oversized plug? (size on bolt says M14 1.5, so the "Dorman 65217 autograde oversize oil drain plug" I see on amazon seems worth a shot.
5) Etc?
Some solutions I see seem permanent in that if they work, great, but if not it's new oil pan time. While I think I could strip one from a junkyard and replace mine it looks to be a huge hassle with this model of car. I would almost rather seal the plug entirely and drain the oil in the future using a motorcycle/marine vacuum pump...
Anyways, am I overthinking what is possibly as easy as a new gasket, washer, or oversized plug? I haven't yet been able to try these so apologies if I'm ahead of myself making a post so early.
Thanks!
