New owner in Arkansas

I am a diesel technician for J.B. Hunt, I have owned many imports most of them classic's such as Mark III Toyota Supra's, Mitsubishi Starions/Conquests and Nissan 300zx's. I am unsure of what grabbed my attention of a Mazda 6 but it was instant love. I purchased a 2005 Mazda 6 S hatch (See my avatar). So far the car is stock but it wont stay that way but before any mods can begin I have to take care of neglected maintenance items. The car s a little sluggish in first gear but awakens in 2nd so a tune up is in order along with possibly catalytic converter replacement, needs tires and possibly struts as it feels a bit like a go kart. I will create a thread showing my progress as I perform maintenance and mods to the car.

Welcome to the forum!

What the V6 really wants is MORE AIR. Give it a bigger throttle body, better intake, and exhaust and you'll get a nice little boost in its performance. I still miss my 2004 from time to time because it was absolutely a blast to drive.

Have to agree with the above, I gutted my exhaust and used a straight through magnaflow along with a CAI and I noticed great torque gains and I didnít even use the bigger TB

So is there a chosen intake upgrade that most have seen a difference with? I have already read through posts about the throttle body and I will be looking at upgrading it. One of the guys I work with is friends with a tech at the local dealership I am going to see if I can get the car reflashed after hours and put the money in his pocket and not the dealership. I have been looking at getting 2 more keys as my car was a repo so I only have 1 key and no fobs that is my first order of business. The second order of business will be the suspension it is very rough and the car has 175k miles on it so I am going to start off with struts and springs. I will most likely gut the exhaust system as well. I do have an issue I have been searching and cant really find, under hard acceleration between 1-2-3 when it shifts I can hear a backfire in the engine bay but if I drive it normally I dont have any issues any clues? I am a previous Cadillac/GM guy so I have a Tech ii tool, is there anything available like the factory programming tool?

Anyways I have gone on long enough cheers everyone.

Oops missed a gear

Is there any chance you could get a video of the issue? As for the factory software you can find it here I think I priced the whole system once somewhere around $2k Iím not sure if you can just purchase it through that site or not though.
