Picking up 07 Sport wagon tomorrow

Found a good deal on an 07 Sport wagon VE, with mechanical problems (timing chain rattle, CELs and burning oil). Driving down to Oregon to go pick it up tomorrow. Been lurking the forum for a few days and checking out what to do / change. Found a $400 '07 Ford Fusion engine w/96k, so I'm gearing up to swap engines. Looks like the cargo cover thing is borked.

Plenty of cars in the fleet, but I needed something a bit larger as I love fishing and going out on extended road trips etc. I'm not much of a truck or SUV guy so Wagons were first on my mind. I had my sights set on an Lexus IS300 Sportcross, but sold before I got there and then looked at Protege5s and Mazda3s before finding this 6 wagon. I have to say I think Mazda has done a good job with the looks. Combined with that, the 6speed auto in this '07 (I needed one car to be Auto) and power had me sold. I was surprised how many I found that were manual though! Does seem like there are a boat load of '04 wagons around...I have to say the wagon definitely needs the rear spoiler installed!

Color of my car is Tungsten Gray and has dark grey cloth.

Welcome! I have an 04 6 wagon with the 5-spd. It's a wonderful vehicle. I had the exact opposite experience as you--I'm not exaggerating when I say there were ten or more automatics for every manual, at least in a 1,000 mile radius. I had to fly from Maine to NJ to get mine but it was totally worth it for the condition and price.

From what I know that's a fairly common engine swap. You'll find lots of info around here. Post a pic of the wagon when you get a chance.

Manual transmissions, wagons, and heavy metal are awesome. Zoom-Zoom \m/

Welcome!! Another wagon to boot. There are a dedicated few on here. When you can, navigate over to the Wagon Love thread I started on here. I started it to celebrate all the 6 wagons. Post up a picture of your ride. We are all excited to see it.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I need to take a look at that cargo cover link and get it fixed. Thanks!

Just got back from picking it up in Portland, engine does have a pretty good tick to it, but does run. I'll get some pics tomorrow in the daylight!

Thanks.

I've taken some photos, but don't have enough privileges yet to post them. As soon as I get them I'll post up in the Wagon love thread

I wish Mazda would start to sell the Mazda 6 wagon in North America again. It would be an ideal choice for us when we needed to replace our old Mazda 5 because they no longer selling the 5.

Yeah i was looking at current gen 6 wagons (abroad ones of course) and they are not bad looking for sure. It would be nice to have a Japanese option other than Subaru or the smaller 3. But it is what it is, SUVs are king...
