Been having an issue with car not starting occasionally. Gauges would bounce around. i would unhook negative battery cable and reconnect and it would start. Thought the cables were not tight and causing problem, put new cables on side posts so they could be tighter. Horn went off and had to turn key to stop it, Now NO START. Gauges bouncing. Everything lights up and the security light is not on or flashing. Just no engagement.

Sounds like you may have bad ground, or a bad starter. However -

I'm not following exactly when the symptoms you describe occur. When the key is in the run position (but not engine not started yet), what is happening? What happens when you then turn the key to the start position? Is there any mechanical sound at all from the engine - a clicking, does it turn over at all, etc?

What do you mean by "gauges bouncing" and "everything lights up"?

Gauges bouncing. Everything lights up and the security light is not on or flashing. Just no engagement.

Usually you see that when there's a low battery condition (gauges bouncing) which could be a number of causes including bad battery, not charging (bad alternator), bad connection or bad ground.

What happens when you try to jump start it?
