Question 2016 Mazda6 Touring - Navigation - Live Traffic

Hello All,
Its been 2 months since I bought my 2016 Mazda 6. I love the car and today I the dealer upgraded my Mazda Connect to version 55. Any way to get live Traffic updates? The detailed traffic info is greyed out. The technician indicated that I have to contact TomTom for live traffic update and buy a subscription. I have updated the maps. I have looked at the TomTom site and found nothing. There were no documentation about when I purchased the vehicle. Do I need to get an iOS app to integrate?

Thank you in advance

To get live traffic (assuming it is available): from the main menu select applications, and the first option should be "HD Radio Traffic Map"

HD traffic does not cut it with turn by turn...I received the following email...dealer techs forward me to Tom Tom ...which is incorrect

Thank you for contacting Mazda Connect Support.

The navigation system was created by NavTeq, not TOM TOM and we advise you not to update your SD card in the TOM TOM site since your SD card is not TOM TOM compatible.

To update your SD card, visit
Mazda Connect.

You must download the Mazda Toolbox first and create a back-up prior to updating your SD card.

The system was originally designed with Connected Services capabilities (i.e. wifi, live traffict update). However it is not available at this time but may be provided in the future. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you have further inquiries or concerns, contact us at 800-430-0153 Mon-Fri, from 7am-8pm CT.

Thank you,

Mazda Connect Support

Most dealer techs and salesmen are morons (no offense to anyone on this forum). Mazda used Tom Tom up until 2015 and switched to Navteq so the directions you received over email are correct. The update process is very easy.

Found this thread while searching for information about live traffic on nav in our new Mazda3. The 2016 Mazda6 now comes with the same nav system the 3 had for 2014-2015.

And guess what??? THERE IS NO LIVE TRAFFIC FOR YOUR NAV SYSTEM!

I just got off the phone with the MazdaConnect people and they did admit they have not been able to negotiate streaming of live traffic data from the source. Not sure who that is, and they say they are still working on it, but in the meantime that means we don't get live traffic on our nav systems.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL US THIS AT THE DEALER WHEN WE BOUGHT IT?

And no, it's no longer a Tom-Tom system for your 2016 Mazda 6, or 3 so there's no fix for it.

Can you believe this heap of crap?

Uh, no. The 2016 Mazda 6 now has the nav that was in the 2014-2015 Mazda 3 and it does NOT have live traffic on the map overlay.

The HD Radio regional traffic map is huge and you can't zoom in on it, and it's not part of the nav screen.

Personally, I HATE TOM TOM. I just stick to my smartphone GPS.
I hope in the near future, I can switch out my module for a much better setup.
So far, I have seen some promising units, but are not fully compatible with the guidance knob or steering wheel buttons.

I don't even know what you are disagreeing with in my statement? Your comment is completely irrelevant to my post you quoted.

Salesman need to Inform Customers

I have to agree with the why didn't they say something when we bought it. I mean if they know that then they won't be getting calls on it. I thought it was because I got the Touring model not the "Grand Touring". Glad I joined this web site. :>) Like someone else said, I know where the traffic Historically piles up. That is of no real use. I too hope they get it up and working, I suppose it will be at a premium though.

You can get historical traffic data on the Nav screen by going to Navigation Info -> Traffic -> Traffic History. You can even zoom in/out and look at other cities' historical traffic data.

Interestingly enough, there is a Current Traffic menu option that is grayed out which corroborates what MazdaConnect Support told Chris Brown, ie: They're still working on it, hopefully it will be available some time in the future.

Quick question. I thought you were supposed to see images of buildings on the map. 3D buildings. Has anyone seen those? I've been thru cities and haven't had that pop up yet. I have seen the enhanced lane exit view like TomTom shows (once). Just wondering if I set it up right or is this something else missing.
