Actully 1,2 gig of RAM wouldn't help you that much :) 512 is the highest you can get with normal applications and actually have use of it... 1024 is a waste of money for example, unless you do 3D or heavy duty sound/video editing!

Just a little... comment ;)

or if you have things running in the background ram can be quite useful

I have 1 gig PC3200 ram and I can have my photoshop work open and flash work, as well as an FTP downloading, two browsers and still play GTA vice City at 1024x768x32 with everything on screaming fast. Its quite lovely :)

I got a gig of RAM to be able to do video editing, those 300 meg (compressed) files get a little hard to work with when you don't have enough RAM. 3D Studio Max also needs a lot of memory to be able to render decently fast.

a gig of ram does help you if you run more apps at once. esp all the adobe image programs, dw, etc. And i've found that winamp3 is very RAM heavy, and is quite gay, but i like one of the skins.
