The sounds of FFS

Was playing with the GoPro and ended up with a 2nd thru 6th run up the gears tonight. I'm rather fond of the sound...

Sweet vid! What do you have your ffs set at? I have mine set at 5000 just in case I miss a shift and need that extra split second to get it in (That's what she said...). It almost sounds like you're hitting a limiter between shifts

Be careful with FFS. Pretty sure that's what bent from shifter fork back in the day.

It just sets a ref limiter for when the gas pedal is mashed. For launch control if you set it around 4k rpm it will bounce off that while creating some boost in the process. For FFS if you set it at 5k rpm when you are WOT and go to shift if you leave your foot on the gas it will only hit 5k rpm instead of redline.

Wishing it was ignition cut
Alas we get fuel cut instead, for both LC and FFS. That pop you hear is the IDC being cut to 0 for a portion of a second, shows up as one cell in logs

I have mine set to 3750 for LC and 5000 for FFS. I'm too wussy to set LC any higher even tho I still let some load get on the rear axle gently & get some load transferred to the rear before fully releasing the clutch. %K for the FFS cause I regularly run into the high 4K range during daily farting around, and setting FFS any lower gets intrusive.

Shift fork damage is totally on how you shift. I'm not 'speed shifting', I'm FFS'ing. I can shift much faster than that, but I like my trans and don't really want to do surgery on it. That said tho, Have you see the racing forks with the brass plates??? Drooool, I'd love to have a set!

Thanks for the correction. Yeah I guess that's better than ign cut... we wouldn't want to keep injecting fuel without spark.

Actually ignition cut is better as long as you don't sit on the LC rev limiter for long periods. Ign Cut is much more authoritative & much faster reacting, but yeah, you don't want to sit on it for too long especially if you still have cats

The two step, which works really well, and all the racing that use LC are all ign based- even the EVO is ign based. We more or less fake it with fuel cut. Works tho, and is better than nothing- sort of a no charge (get what you pay for) extra bonus with the AP...

I'll take it- I love FFS.

Gotta watch the AFR's when FFSing tho- some cars will go lean in the next gear when FFSing, so you need to learn how your car behaves.

I remember someone from COBB a long time ago talking about considering doing an ignition-based implementation if people wanted. Can't find that thread now.... oh well.

I haven't used LC or FFS in a long time. I don't find it very useful for what I do with the car. But I like playing with them from time to time.
