Is there power steering fluid in 2017 Mazda6?

Is there no power steering fluid in 2017 Mazda6? The reason I ask is because my 2007 Mazda3 needs a top up and I thought maybe both Mazda 6 and Mazda3 use the same power steering fluid. I was trying to figure out which fluid to use on my Mazda3 as there's talk on Dexron III or Mercon V, etc.

Both the 2007 Mazda3 and 2017 Mazda6 use FL22 coolant though.

I tried looking in my manual and there's no mention in the maintenance section, just stuff on brake fluid and coolant and engine oil.

Hi Stovetop. 2014 - 2017 Mazda6 has electric steering, not hydraulic, so no fluid needed....! Does seem kind of strange, I remember looking for the power steering fluid container myself once and then it hit me....! lol

Cheers,

What he said. It's 100% electric, which is why you get a bit more of the 'floaty' feel when you're driving it (I don't like it).

Thanks!
I guess it's better though since there's one less maintenance thing to worry about?

While electric is obviously not foolproof, it's got a lot fewer points of failure than power. No pump, reservoir, tubes, etc.

This brings up a question for me then...

Is the power assist activated when the car is on (full power on but no engine running)? Or does the engine need to be running in order for it to work?

It's my understanding it only powers up if the engine is running.
