2016 Mazda6 GT noob questions

As a recent 2016 M6 GT owner, and after having read the rather bulky 630+ pages user manual cover to cover - twice, i thought i'll create a thread to help myself and other new M6 owners with information that aren't necessarily clear in the user manual.

So the first of my newbie questions is about the auto climate control, last night I had the heater turned on manually at 75 degrees F with recirculating on, and then i hit the 'Auto' button thinking it will maintain the set the temperature, fan speed etc on its own. But instead the 'Auto' setting turned the AC on, and changed the mode from face to windshield defroster, and started pulling outside air in. I am new to the automatic climate control world, but what am i doing wrong ? I thought all the 'Auto' setting ever did was to choose the best settings for a pre-selected temperature ?

( PS : please be patient with me while i ask some more noob questions as i try to figure out all the options in my new car )

Welcome aboard.

Let the auto climate do its job. You don't want to recirculate heated air without the compressor turning as your windows will fog hopelessly. Also, the auto climate always turns the a/c on, but if it's cold enough the compressor may not run.

Right. Just because the A/C button is lit doesn't mean that it's cycling the compressor. You can actually feel it when idling. It runs the compressor in short bursts to keep the air dry.

Thanks guys, this makes sense. Since the heater was on and i had it on recirculating, i think the auto setting turned on defogger and AC to dehumidify the air.

Ok, here's another noob question. I live in Maryland, and i purchased my M6 brand new from a dealership and financed through my bank. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow since i bought my car and i am yet to receive my plates.

I still have the temp tags & registration that are good for another 5 weeks, so i am not very worried, but just wondering why it takes so long to get registration/plates when tag & title places process them in 10 mins ? Can somebody from MD who has experience with new cars please tell me how long it usually takes to get the plates ? Thank you.

I'm not from Maryland but 2 - 3 weeks to process and ship brand new plates isn't unheard of. If they don't show up by the end of next week, I'd go back to the dealer and have them contact whoever they can to see what's going on.

Congrats on your purchase, btw.

In my experience, my 2016 is much more random than that. It sometimes turns the a/c on and sometimes does not. It seems as if when it does turn it on, it stays on for the entire trip. The next trip, it may not be on. There's no apparent rhyme or reason.

It selects whatever vents it wants, but it will change these during the trip.

In addition, neither of these things seems to in any way be tied to the "DEFOG YOUR WINDOW!" message that appears on the MFD. That is, the message comes up, but the full-auto climate control isn't doing anything about it.

Live in GA, bought my car end of december 2015, just got my registration this week....so that took 2 months. I drove with an expired dealer tag for three weeks. Still do not have Title and was told it will be awhile yet.

Thanks guys, i received my plates/registration card yesterday. Here's another question : The users manual says i can unlock all the doors through a single operation using the key. I followed the procedure as per the manual by : (1) Opened the drivers side door. (2) Held the unlock button for 5 seconds after opening the door and (3) Closed the drivers side door. Somehow it doesn't seem to be working, pressing the unlock button still unlocks only the driver's side door, what am i doing wrong ? Thanks again.

You have to go through your settings on the touchscreen display. You will see it under the Vehicle tab, not sure which specifically, but there is an option to make it so that 1 click will unlock/lock all doors.
