Thanks! I carefully measured 1" spacing for the holes, then set up a jig to drill the holes (important step because holes need to face forward, not sideways), then filled the holes (any clear substance eg epoxy, glue, etc. will work) then glued a LED strip I had to the back and wired it to the ignition.

That is nicely done. That placement gives it a flush look like it was supposed to be there rather than just some LEDs slapped on.

Thanks! I actually had some extra LED strips laying around that I bought for like $1.50 last year (normally they are about $10-15 apiece). The strips made it super easy to install, however I want to replace them with a whiter and brighter set at some point. These are the same strips I used to light my trunk and tailgate:
