Aux kit with USB and 3.5mm input in console

One point of contention I've had about the aux kits is where to have the cable or ports located. I found a kit that will replace the accessory socket in the centre console with a USB and 3.5mm input.

So with that sorted, I looked for the interface module and found a cheap CD changer emulator type, like the GROM unit without the price tag. This one has USB and 3.5mm inputs.. also reads from memory cards.

I'll see how this setup works and post a review with install pics. I did plan on buying the GROM Audio USB3 module but I found this 'unbranded' unit for a fraction of the price.

Next will be to install a new accessory socket somewhere but for now it's not necessary..

Not sure, if its just a aux input cable that doesn't emulate XM radio or CD Changer then you should be fine. Most MP3 interface kits will either emulate the CD changer or the XM radio module depending on the firmware of your head unit but the kits that only have the 3.5 mm input only provide a line in. You should look for a kit that is recommended for 2003 - 2008, the kit you shared says it's for 2006 onwards only but not sure why this is. It looks like it uses a connector for the CD changer port so maybe pre 2006 do not provide line in through this port.

Keep us posted on your install. I'm excited to see your finished setup. I too hate the lose cables about the cabin and have explored the option you present. Can't wait to see yours finished.

I just got the basic aux cable that plugs into the back of a 06-08 radio https://www.amazon.com/Goliton-3-5mm.../dp/B006FFCONA and a 3.5 mm panel mount https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for my aux in. I thought about going with the version with USB but didn't really feel the need to wire it in, I just got a low profile USB charger for the 12v outlet.

Where have you mounted the socket? I was going to replace the cigarette lighter but after having it there for a few weeks it was just as annoying with the cables and now I'm thinking of placing it in the upper dash caddy.

The dash console will work great. While I don't have the same kit, that's where I have the line for my phone located. I also have a Y there that has another aux cord running to the center console. Best thing is if/when I want, I can still close the dash console with everything still in it. (Don't mind the dust or anything, work in progress lol)
