I have an inverter that I haven't tried yet. I plan to keep it in the car. I don't know if that's a good idea if I'll be using the inverter for a couple of hours.

I intend to use the cigarette plug with it instead of connecting it directly to the battery terminals.

I would like to know everybody's opinion.

I have a "factory" 400 W inverter in my truck. For charging a cell phone it's not much different than plugging in at home. In other words, it works great, charges fast.

As long as the 12V outlet is switched, turns off when you turn the car off - go for it. If the outlet is not switched be sure and remember to unplug it each time you turn the car off.
EDIT: Be sure and check the draw the inverter has on the circuit. Compare that to the fuse that runs the 12V outlet. I'd guess there's a 20 or 30 amp fuse protecting the 12V

I am sure that it turns OFF. Then it is safe to use. Since you mentioned the fuse, this should remind me that I should use the battery terminals if I'll be maximizing the capacity of the inverter.

If it's just for charging a laptop, I think the cigarette plug will do.

Thank you for the reminder about the fuse. That is something I didn't think of.

12 V power source buy

I bought a dual USB cigarette charger from a eBay seller for $5.55 and it charged my iPhone in no time compare to just using the factory USB outlet oh one thing you must unplug it or the charging indicator light on it will stay on and if left long enough it might drain your car battery I used the console cigarette outlet not the one below the radio because I have a plug in a digital volt indicator that lets me know what volts my car is running to me which I like because when I turn on my car it turns on and it lets me know my alternator is charging.
Good day! RJ
