Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror

I just bought a 2017 Mazda 6 Touring. I am looking to add a few accessories starting with the auto dimming rearview mirror. The car is equiped with the forward facing camera as well as the moonroof package. This project seems to be pretty straight forward but I want to confirm.

Around the camera and current mirror is a plastic housing. It seems that I would sperate the two pieces exposing the mirror mount. I am assuming this will not affect the camera. I was also going to tie into power in the overhead console. I should have constant as well as switchable 12v.

Am I making this too easy?

There is no need to tie power into the overhead console; there should be a plug under the driver-side A-pillar cover. Just get the auto-dim mirror with the correct harness for this car (it's sold that way) and plug it in -- done. Oh, you get Homelink at the same time.

You will need a new "bitch clip" for the A-pillar as it's nearly impossible to remove it from the cover and a-pillar without destroying it (the "book" way is to cut the tether, which destroys it) and you DO NOT want to use a damaged one as there is an airbag back there and if it goes off that tether is what keeps the cover from smacking you in the face!

BTW there is only one actual manufacturer of these -- they have a patent on it, so you get to pay up and the only real difference is whether you buy the Mazda-specific wiring harness for it or not. For the extra $20 or so yes, you want the Mazda-specific wiring harness as it makes it a 10 minute install :-)

Does anyone know the correct part number for the auto dimming mirror with homelink? The 8C-H73 mirror does not fit the 17 Touring model with sunroof. The overhead console and plastic around the forward facing cameras interfers with the mirror. Also, the install kit does not match the wires in the A Pillar on the 17 model.

So the part number for the 2017 Mazda 6 is 0000-8C-H02. It does NOT plug into the harness. You need to use the splicing clips to connect it. SInce my A-pillar was already apart I tied it in there. My suggestion would be to to tie it into the the wiring for the overhead lights. Might be a little easier then pulling the pillar off and having to deal with the clip.

The A-pillar is the correct location as the power there is switched.

Good point. I have the sun roof package so there is constant power as well as switched. I should have been more clear.

Does anybody have a write up for this install with pictures? I have a 2017 and I'm unclear of what exactly I need to buy and if it is plug and play. There is this strange plastic box attached to the windshield surrounding my rear view mirror. I also do not have a sunroof.

I bought the Mazda 6 on December 19, 2017 and I have auto dimmer switch at the rear view mirror.

I thought this one comes in standard across all models.

What trim?

The 2017 could easily be different, but on the 2016 at least that only comes with the Grand Toruing and above.

I have a 2017 Touring. It has a manual mirror you flip up with no power, but looks like it has a power box surrounding it? Maybe the auto dim would be plug and play?
