07 6S hatch— simply put for some reason when I turn on my fog lights the high beam indicator lights up on the dash. The car did not originally come with fog lights I came across an 06 at Pull-A-Part that had them so I pulled them and the oem switch and put them on mine. I have not ever had the high beam light come on with the fog lights in the 8 months they have been on the car, this seems to have started after I had the front bumper and headlights off of the car a week ago.
This is probably just my lack of experience with electrical work but I still have not figured this out. Let me recap:
When I turn on the fog lights the high beam indicator on the dash comes on. The car has LED low and high beam bulbs, currently has standard fog light bulbs (put them back in while trying to solve this problem then broke one of my LED's while they were out so I left the old bulbs in). The car did not originally come with fog lights I pulled the lights and factory column switch off an 06 at the scrapyard. The lights have been on the car for around 8 months, this problem did not start happening until after I had the front bumper and headlights off the car. I have checked the connections and some of the wiring around the connections for all of the lights and so far have not found anything out of place.
I'm wondering if the BCM thinks that the headlights are out causing it to go to high beam by default. I found this out when trying to test my 1st set of HIDs. I think if the car does not see the correct resistance for the low beams, the high beams come on. By chance, did it start when you installed the LED lows?
Did the same thing recently but my high beams come with the fog lights when the car is started. Anyone have the fog light schematic diagram for an 07 mazda 6S? Appears previous owner wired and mounted relays in front of the air filter box. Trying to restore fuse box back to factory.
You mind me asking what you did? I was wanting to make my headlights pretty much standalones but was having this issue today when I didn't have the lights plugged into the factory harness.
Resistors might work couldn’t hurt to try.
This is what I did:
I removed the bottom of the fuse box and found that there’s a wire that runs back up into the car somewhere, I imagine to the computer, and the exact same wire (or rather exact same color wire) comes back to the fuse, I cut that wire and simply connected it directly to the fuse. The only issue I ran into was that now I no longer got the indicator with my fog lights but they could be turned on any time even with the headlight switch and key off, I fixed this with a relay triggered by the parking lights so when the headlights/parking lights get turned off the fogs do too basically just as they would have originally.
It sounds like you have the fog light mod. Nice! Glad you got it sorted and I now have a better understanding of what was going on with my issue today. From my understanding it's the high beam circuit that has the "reading" in it. If the high beams are out, the fog lights will not turn on and the indicator will pop up. Reading in back post, people had this issue putting hids in the hb location causing the reading to be off. A simple resistor in place will take care of the reading.
