I hope they come out with a kit soon. I had the Kensun on my 2011 6 8500K lights and stock light just suck and u can only get the hid on GT model. If anyone has info please pass along..
The filament in the halogen bulb creates resistance in the circuit, by removing that bulb and replacing it with an LED that creates far less resistance, the vehicle's BCM will interpret this as a bulb going bad and thus triggers a bulb out warning
When the filament in the halogen bulb goes, it creates less resistance. That's how the car lets you know it's time to replace the bulb
This isn't the same for every vehicle, but worth noting regardless
Yes, what DD said and I guess has to do with the halogen for DRL working at half the power of the high beam which uses full power. So I think with the resistor it gives full juice at all times as with half the power the LED will not light up fully or not at all. Just a note that with this DRL option the highbeams are completely rendered useless, there are none. I don't know the specifics just my guess
Not all DRL LEDs are the same, there are some models that still offer usable brightness
DRL half-power settings are also caused by AC frequency fluctuations, which aren't noticeable with halogen bulbs, but prevent HIDs from functioning properly in a DRL circuit
So really odd thing I noticed. I bought the TRS HID kit a few months back, but only noticed this now. When I have my headlight switch in the off position, but try to flash the high beams, the HIDs turn on as well?!?!
I bought the TRS kit, so it came with ballast for the HIDs as well as the relay, so not sure why that is. Has anyone seen this before?
Just did this this weekend. Had to get creative and make a custom harness. Both lights work on his but I am having an issue with one of my relays or a bad connection some where so the drls and the high beam flap are not working. It didn't work initially, then It did briefly than back out. But I had to put it back together since it's a daily driver. Looks like I get to take the bumper off really soon again.

I had to get a warranty replacement for a faulty morimoto ballast months ago and I finally got around to it. Looks like they upgraded the DSP design. The new unit I got is like 1/8" thinker then the original design of the DSP, plus the cords are crimped differently.
@2014mazda6 that looks sweet man, something I am thinking about doing sometime in the future
anyone put HIDs in their fogs? I just got the fog light kit and for the heck of it put in a scrap h11 hid bulb, they don't fit. you need to remove or bend that shield thing, anyone done this? I don't plan on going hid fogs ever, but just an observation.
If I am honest it was awful. In and out of the oven 5 times set at 270 for 7 mins a pop. Not to mention getting the butyl rubber that was another 5 times or so. Also I put them together on a very humid day apparently because I have condensation. If I remember it was around 85% that day. So I have to wait for a hot day and pop out the bulbs to let them breath.
This is my first post ever. I want to thank EVERYONE on this forum because everyone has been so damn informative.
I just purchased the " HID Xenon Headlight Conversion Kit by Kensun, H11, 5000K 35W" on Amazon (used some of my Discover points too, awesome).
I also, on Thursday, signed the loan deal for my new M6 Touring (Black on Black - picking her up in 2 weeks), thinking about naming her Midnight. This community, from what I've read, is awesome and helpful, and I look forward to reading more, and posting any results!
Welp I finally replaced a misfiring Morimoto ballast less than a month ago, and guess what? the other one started misfiring today... this is seriously getting very annoying and stupid. That is a grand total of 4 faulty DSP 3fives, not including the recalled "SS" 3fives. I hope its just the ground (factory ground on the strut tower). I wonder if it could the the mounting location causing this, like too much shock and moisture. below is a pic of the mounting spot. before this one I have had one fail on the drivers side and 2 on the passengers side. This one that just failed used to be on the drivers side till I switched it to the passenger side to isolate the problem
I bought my first set from TRS this past summer and couldn't be happier. I don't really see any difference between the DDM's & the TRS's (I have DDM in my fogs). I did mount the ballast using 3M molding tape to the front side of the strut tower and have not had any issues with it. The DDM 6000k I used as lows in my '14 and had the ballast mounted the same way. Never had any issues in the year and a half they were mounted there. I am using a harness on the TRS setup and not on the DDM. I'm also using the headlights more since my daily commute has tripled in distance. The TRS setup I find to be bright and so far, reliable.
I guess you could try changing where you're mounting them to see if it makes a difference. I have the DDM kit and mounted mine the same as Cloud did as shown here:
Hey guys quick question - installed my Kensun H11's and they're awesome. Only thing is, passenger bulb seems to be not as bright as driver side (can't tell when looking head on, but on the road, noticeable, just doesn't project as far, and even within 10 feet of the car, it looks like there's shadow).
Trying to figure out with the Kensun guy whether it's the ballast or the bulb and I won't have time to take it apart until this weekend. Looking for a quick diagnosis, I'm going to say it's the bulb, because the color is off as well (temp looks more like 6000k), and I don't think the ballast would affect that. What do you guys think? I'll post pics in a few days when I get time!
quickest would be swap the bulb side to side. I have my ballasts mounted in a way that they can be swapped in 10 minutes. I avoid super clean installs for this reason, so you dont need to take stuff apart to fix it
When I got my DDM lights, my right one looked a lot more blue than the other one (I ordered 5000K). I called them about it and they said to check how I put it in the housing, stating that if it wasn't installed in the same orientation then that could affect the color output. I thought it was a stall tactic but I tried it anyway, and that actually was the problem in my case. Go figure! So the bulb was upside down or something. I posted a picture somewhere in this thread on how it looked. Right now they both match the left one and look perfect.
Given the fact that they're saying they are brighter than halogens, I'm assuming this would fix the LED DRL problem of us losing high beams? It is quite pricy, but I think would be worth it. What do yall think?
I just noticed that DDM has a new "Ultra" HID kit with full size ballasts and free shipping for $80. DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting
I want to replace my Kensun kit because it misfires about half the time, but I'm hesitant to spend big bucks on the Morimoto kit because the rate of problems seems about the same as the cheap kits.
I'm wondering if this new DDM Ultra kit will be a happy medium between quality and price. I might take one for the team and try it out. If I do, I will post my results.
So I installed the Xtreme HID 35w 5000K kit from XenonDepot over the weekend and I must say I'm really impressed with the quality of this kit. Installation was simple I'm very particular about wires showing or dangling so a good number of zip ties were used as well as 3M tape for other components of the kit. Took me about 1.5 hours total for installation and that's mainly due to the fact that I went through the wheel wells.
I will try to take some pics at night, weathers been really crappy the last few days haven't had a chance. But I can clearly say that these are a nice bright white light and the bulbs do take maybe 4-5 seconds to warm up to the color temp. No flickering, no shadows so far so good. Overall pretty happy with everything. Let's see how it goes from here.
I just received the same kit with both 5300k and 4300K Phillips rebased bulbs and I'm going to install it soon. I noticed you mounted the ballast flat. Does it accumulate moisture/wetness when raining? Where did you mount the relays? I can't see it in your pictures. I plan to use both relays so do I connect both positives to the same battery positive? Also, if I use the relay harness, then I don't need to use the factory plug?
So my car is 2016 touring and I am not sure if Xenondepot H11 Philips hid kit kit also fit into my car.
Also when you install the HID kit, did you take your front bumper off or not?
Do I need anything else besides a HID kit and a relay harness? I keep hearing things about a 20 amp fuse. Is that included in a harness? Can I replace the one in the fuse box? Or do I need some extra piece?
Thanks for the help.
