I have a 2007 South African spec Mazda 6. The local nomenclature is 'Individual 2.3l', It was the top spec sold in SA. I bought the car new.
I have the 2 'flick knife' remotes pictured.
When changing the battery of one of them I broke off the flexible tab. This I lived with for a while.
I eventually decided to buy a new remote from China, the shipping cost was such a large portion of the total cost, I ordered 2.
What I bought consisted of only plastic and a blank keys. Absolutely no electronics at all.
A local locksmith copied a original key to the blanks for me.
Now for the fun part!
I simply fit a new flick blade part to the push button half, it turns on the ignition but the car won't start!
So I swapped the old, working, key blade and fitted it into the new plastic shell, same symptom!
I tried all combinations of new and old parts all with the same result.
I should add that both remote controllers lock & unlock the doors. Seeing as they do this, I see no reason to go through the re-programming loop, simply because I've changed a piece of plastic. Or in the case of the key blade, a piece of metal.
Does anyone out there know differently?
