That's pretty much awesome.

So I can buy some new El Glow gauges, or whatever new OEM gauges I want, off ebay let's say, and I could drastically reduce my miles.

Wow. I'm all for it *goes to search on ebay*

Actually, I really don't care about reducing the miles. I was just worried about it and wondered if it could be changed, is all.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Putting a sticker on the door is a legal method of correcting an incorrect odometer reading. In addition these days with CarFax your mileage is recorded with most state inspections and many other occassions as well, so your actual mileage is easy to verify.

Be aware that this could possibly make your car worth less since it could presumably appear that you're attempting to defraud someone. Buyers will very likely be wary if they run a CarFax and find a report in there where your mileage went lower from one inspection to the next. Be VERY sure if you sell your car to make it clear to the buyer that your odometer has been altered. Not sharing this information is illegal.

Well, as far as the legality, I'm not sure. I have the dealer's paperwork in my filing cabinet in case it's ever an issue. Hell, they did it, not me. But to do it yourself? No idea what issues you'd run into.

Anyhow, there is an EL set in the buy/sell section right now.

yeah, that's a bad thing. like sigma said, you HAVE to tell the person that buys the car from you about the correct mileage. i don't know what the legal penalization is, but i know you can get sued like a mother f*ker.

At least in Minnesota, you have to sign an affadavit to the mileage at the time of sale. There is a spot indicating the amount on the odometer is incorrect as well as a spot for it rolling over (much less likely than it used to be).

Even if the dealer did the change, you are considered the one commiting perjury if you do not disclose it on the title transfer.

That's what I was thinking, and HOPING. Whenever I put the gauges on, I was hoping it'd be the original mileage, but it wasn't.

That's the only reason they're not on the car right now.
