I have read through some topics already and was wondering IF I have to remove the headlight assembly to install an HID kit (bulbs to be more specific)? It looks like I might be able to do this by removing the cover for the bulbs.....but I don't want to jump to conclusions. Any input given is appreciated.

I already have a 5000k kit that is sitting here......needs to be installed!

Now that you've seen the install directions for the 6, get those suckers in!
You're gonna love um. And don't forget to do the "no glare" mod too......

Yup, PITA is right!! But well worth it. Look on the positive side, at least you dont have to deal with disabling the DRL like we must in canada!

Hmm...... if you are able to squeeze your hands in there, then why not?? but that's a 300 bucks stuff you are talking about here..... if you want to risk it, then go for it, but if you want to be on the safe side, take off the bumper.... that way, nothing coulda gone wrong... unless you never took off your bumper before....

Dudes... removing the bumper on a 6 is far from a PITA. Its literally a 10 min job. Add another 5 mins, and the headlights are off and in your lap.

Seriously, unless you can train a 4-year-old with tiny hands to change the bulbs (or in this case install the HID bulbs) its not worth the effort to try to squeeze your fingers in there... especially if you have the V6 since there's absolutely no space to work with behind the headlights.

Really... its no big deal taking the bumper and headlights off.

Besides, where are you mouting your ballasts? There is a spot on the underside of the headlight that just screams out "put ballast here". That's where the JDM/Euro cars have their OEM ballasts.

Something to consider.

PS! You won't need a whole day for a HID kit install. t_mo_t and I have done such installs in about 2.5 hours.

Well compared to my Contour.....there is no room to mount the ballasts in the 6.....not only that 3 screws held in my HL in the Contour. I installed an HID kit in that car during my 30 minute lunch break.

How many bolts to remove the bumper.....and where are they located? The 6 needs HIDs!
