I have been reading all day about the XTEC 6000K Hid Kit...

And after reading I have found people with the 6 like to remove that clip in the low-beam to reduce glare....

I have also read that clip is there to shine light upwards at some points, allowing for better vision....

here are my questions...

1. Will light output be the same with and without the clip?? I have to admit, I don't mind the glare into oncoming traffic, as long as I'm not looking at it i don't care... selfish or not...

2. Removing it seems to be a pain in the ass, did anyone come up with a good technique yet???

3. How does one aim the HID's???

I will say this, I don't like doing permanent modifications to cars... and me taking that clip out is a permanent step. By removing the clip i think the lighting would be all over the place and that upper lighting would be dampened...

Thanks
BEN

1. Haven't tried my HIDs with the clip, but light output is excellent with the clip removed. The clip make the low brightness of halogens shine up so you can read street signs. I can see signs better now with HIDs and no clip than I could before with halogens and a clip.

2. Removing the clip is very easy using a clothes hanger. You straighten the hanger, but put a 3/8" hook at the end. This hook goes around the clip and you yank it out.

3. Aiming the HIDs is the same as aiming halogens. Keep in mind that you don't want to blind oncoming traffic. You want to avoid blinding traffic for a purely selfish reason. Cops are much more likely to pull over a car for a headlight violation if the violation is obvious, especially if he is the one you blinded.

1. I took the reflector off as soon as I put in my HIDs, so I don't know what it would look like otherwise, but I can tell you that my lights are plenty bright. I can see road signs just fine. Btw, removing the clip doesn't cause the lighting to be "all over place".. on the contrary, NOT removing it will cause that (i.e. glare).

2. I just used the clothes hanger technique that the majority have used, described by Joebob. You may get lucky and get it off on the first try, but for me it was a real PITA.

3. Same as with the halogens, using the screws on the headlight. There's a how-to somewhere here, just do a search.

I drove around for about a year with the "clip" still in. to me it felt like i was driving around with Highbeams on because all the street signs were lit up no matter how low your HIDs were aimed. I took the clip out about a month ago and The signs are still lit but not as much and the glare is substancially less. The light from my headlights makes a clearer line now when you face a wall so i like it more now. I used to get HIghbeamed once in a while with the clip in but now no one has high beamed me yet while i drive without the clip. the HIDs are bright enough so you should definitely remove the "clip".
I believe crossbow has a side by side pic of our cars with our HIDs on. He removed his clip while i still had mine in at the time of the pic. I'll see if i can dig it up.
