Your brass terminals as well as the gold and platium ones will not corrode in our atomshere. Especially the gold ones, those things "should" last forever. They resist oxidation and are chemically resistant to almost all acids.

i just pour the coke in a plastic cup, then dip the negative and positive wire in there to clean off the corrosion.

I heard WD-40 works real well to protect the terminal from corrosion, is that true???

Just go down to autozone and get a tiny wire brush kit for cleaning batteries. It might be 5 bucks. Clean it up very well. Then get a tiny bottle of that spray protectant stuff. It is red, and you spray it over the posts once you put the thing back together. It keeps air from getting to the lead and boom, your all happy for another 40k+ miles.
