does anyone know...I want a whiter color of light when I buy new headlight and foglight bulbs. Probably going to go with PIAA Xtreme White rated at 5000K and I wanted to compair that rating with our stock K output...

If we're talking about the wavelength that has the maximum emission, then Wien's law will come in handy. The wavelength of light out of the whole spectral output of a halogen light that shows up the brightest is at 900 nm.

Given:
w = wavelength of maximum emission, in nm = 900 nm
T = Temperature in K

w = (2898000 nm K) / T

t = (2898000 nm K) / w

= (2898000 nm K) / 900 nm = 3220 K

I knew Modern Physics and astronomy would come in handy. Play around with the equation and use a visible spectrum chart to figure out what maximum wavelength a particular source gives out at what temperature, and vice versa.

EDIT: Fixed calculation.

Nota bene: This doesn't mean the halogen light or HIDs only gives out light with a wavelength of 900 nm. The bulbs give out light throught the whole spectrum. The 900 nm wavelength is just the wavelength that is emitted the most out of the others, hence we see that color.

Extreme White listed here is only 4000K. This is what I have on my car, 100% white with no bluish tint at all. If you want bluish tint, I suggest getting another bulb with higher K.

From this temperature chart, you can see that stock halogen bulb is about 3200K.

Ah, but what's the fun of just looking at a chart.
