Hi.

It's summertime. Temps around 80 - 90 F. Drive for about 30 minutes.

When I take the key out of the ignition, the key is noticably hot to the touch.

People look at me like when they see me blowing on my key before I put it in my shorts....

Anyone else notice this?

Thanks.

I'm sure it has to do with trapped hot air in the column that is stuck there even when you start driving. It just sits there and heats the key up.

The other alternative would be to lick the key. Cools faster, but introduces moisture.

I know the column puts a magnetic-field to the key (that's how the security-chip in the key gets powered and read). I'll send a comment to Mazda Corp. See how far it goes....

Thanks!

Well I only notice my key being hot when the car was reeeally hot inside when I got in it.

Like I notice it when I drive home from work at the end of the day, 15 minute drive after my car has sat out all day long.
