More thoughts on the ongoing debate...

I recently installed the Luminics H1 & H3 hyperwhite bulbs for low beams and fogs. I like the color of the hyperwhites, but am a little disappointed in the brightness. The photo below shows a side-by-side comparison:

[attachmentid=4196]

Although the color of the Luminics bulb is better to my eyes, it just isn't as bright. (Look at the focused area of light, which is larger for the stock bulbs). This is fairly noticable on the road... The integrated fog lights help to illuminate the road near the car, so I've aimed my low beams a little higher to help with objects farther down the road.

[attachmentid=4198]

Seems like this is concrete evidence that this mod should be done only if you prefer the color, not if you're trying to get better performance...

Any thoughts?

ahhhhh this is gonna be good----here is my story with luminics-----i had them for about 2 months---didn't notice anything with light output when i first got them but the fact that they look great and closer to HID-----one burned out----got silverstars to replace them while i wait for my replacments---figure i would try them----the color SUCKED BUT notice they put out more light then the luminics---so i was like HUH--so it all depends on the persons preference----i love the color of the luminics----light output---well it lacks A LITTLE though and it isn't that big of a difference but you can tell-----i got my replacement and they are back in and well yeah i can tell a little but does it bother me ...nah ----i think i love the color over the light output---but that is just me---MY persoanl preference which EVERYONE will have......cool pics---i can see what you are saying---not sure WHY it is how it is but it is...they might have been concentrating on more HID look then light output but who knows?

very nice comparison. i have luminics h1s and h3s and i had the similar feeling. great color, poor visibility. i prefer to see than to be seen. i think i will be switching back to stock soon. anyone up for some 1.5 month old luminics??

To get that far up in color temp, without increasing wattage, they probably had to sacrifice output.

O well, I live in Cali and I probably could drive without lights and still be able to see the road.

I love my Luminics.

FYI, the lower K you go, the lower the lm (output).... so the stock is ~2000K(not sure) and lumistic is ~4700K, so it's not brighter than the stock at all.... HID gains the output lights from its technology.... (x)K is inversely propotional with lm (the brightness)

i am happy with mine, and since the majority of my driving is during the day, and night driving is mostly in the city, i am not too worried. plus when i do get hid's the luminics will match them better. since i will only do hid's in the low beam. the fogs will still match, and the highs will be ok. just is bad right now if i do need my high beams, because they are friggen yellow...haha...

I just ordered a set of H3 and im going to play with both sets of my fogs, these should match my HID's pretty well judging from the first pic up there too Not worried about output as i have the HID's, so its all about the color for me

Actually that is not exactly correct. Between 4700K - 6300K is the brightest part of the white spectrum, which is why the stock HIDs that come with the high end cars are much brighter than halogens.
