Hi folks

After reading tons and tons of topics regarding HIDs I decided to get a kit myself (from local dealer, not North America). BTW they are 8000K and I'm satisfied so far with it.

Anyway, I was wondering which part of the HID system actually determine the temperature. Is it the ballast, the bulbs or the whole thing???. In other words, if by some SAD reason my bulbs get burn, I'd have to buy 8000K bulbs if I have a 8000K ballastor not???

Sorry for the dumb question but I'm new in the subject.

Thanks 4 the answers...

Now, 1 more thing... Some have said in other posts that some HID kits are brighter (not temp related) than others. Two HID kits that in work @ the same temp would have higher lumens (better illumintation) because of the quality of the ballast or bulbs???

It will depend more on the bulbs than the converter. The ballasts act as power supplies for the bulbs, and the bulbs create the light from that power. Most of the lower temp. ~6000k bulbs look brighter than 8500k even though they use the same power. But they are also whiter and less bluish.

It is the bulb (manufacturer, quality, electrodes within bulb, and gas composition) that will determine the colour (temperature in K) and brightness (lumens). This why you can mix and match ballasts and bulbs so long as the connections are compatible of course.
