Depends on the state, and how much the cops care.

For example, rear illumination in Wisconsin can be red, amber, or white for the license plate, so long as it is not a flashing light.

In Minnesota, the regulation is stricter where license plate lighting can only be white. However, I only got pulled over for it once in over 3 years of having them on the Contour.

However, I think blue (not hyperwhite) is probably a bad idea.

i know in maryland it is illegal to have any type of red or blue light in the front.... i had to remove my fog lights when i got my jeep inspected because the covers had a blue tint.. the light was white but they had to be removed.... something about impersonating a cop... i dont think too many cops would pull you for hyperwhite as stated above but i think blue would be bad.... even tho i kno a cop that has illegal blue reverse lights (not on the cop car) but how often do you go in reverse in front of a cop

I installed 2 superwhite 6LED's from autolumination for my plate lights. Actually I like the look because the superwhite 6LED's is not 100% white. It's kinda bluish white color and it's pretty bright.

So in a way, it's attracting attention without attracting attention if you know what I mean.
