HIDs: How much is too much

Ok the XenonDepot ad caught my eye. HIDs starting at $299. I am willing to pay 300 for HIDs but not 400. Don't ask why. My question is...8000k temp H1s. Is that asking for it when it comes to the popo and cops and sheriffs et al? I was thinking like 4300k to 6000k but 8000k does emit a blue/purple color. Not sure good idea if someone is trying to reach the magical age of 25 in a few years to lower insurance. But HIDs are so nice... :drool

In case you are wondering "what the hell is he talking about" here is the link

i bought the 8000K from Xenondepot for $320.
hope to be installing them tomorrow.
My sister's boyfriend also has 8000K in his RSX TypeS and he has no problems at all, they look fantastic and they dont look obvious for the cops to stop him.

!#[email protected]#[email protected]$ Why are all the 6000K kits $400+ :(

IMHO 8000K is going way too high into the blues/purple, you sacrifice enormous amounts of 'usable' light. Even the 6000K is getting sketchy, but again imho the best package between looks/light output.

If they had the 6000K kit for that price.. I'd be all over it :/

I've got twin 8000K HID's (lows and integrated fogs) and they are great. No problem from cops yet, and I've been to FL, NC, AL, and SC so far. Rode right behind a cop for an hr and nothing happened.

As far as your legality question goes, NO color temp HID on the 6 is legal, unless you get the OE HID projectors, which is only available overseas. So no matter what color temp you choose, you are still violating DOT regulations and are risking a ticket.

That being said. it is highly unlikely any cop knows the rules, knows what to even look for under your hood, or will feel like taking the time to prove you do not have the appropriate lenses.

With all of the BMWs, Acuras, Volvos, and Mercs coming out with HID, I think its pretty safe to go kind of high on the color chart without attracting attention.

As was mentioned, you do give up some usable light every K over 4300, but the higher you go is the sweeter it looks, and mine are so bright I don't really care that I gave up a little.

Here is what "I" think the prices should be:

4300k = 299
6000k = 399

That seems like the range I am willing to shell out, hmm...HIDs or Toyo T1s or Carputer...can't decide.
