The V1 does give a lot of false alarms in the city, but what most people overlook is that it only does that right out of the box. You can program the V1 to do anything you want, you can even program it to completely ignore certain bands, but most people don't take the time to read far enough to realize that.

Not saying programming it is easy, but it is possible, and personally I don't really speed in the city anyway, so I usually leave it off and only use it on the hwy.

On a budget I'd recomend the Bel Vector 940. It costs about $175 and has the same performance as the more expensive Bel Vectors without all the features.

I would definantly go with the V1 if you're looking to have your ass saved. There's a bit of a learning curve in regard to the false alarms, but once you know where they are, you'll be sitting pretty. I can't tell you how many times this thing has saved my ass.

On another note, does anyone drive I-10 in Louisiana? If so, have you noticed the constant X band signals you receive over the basin bridge?

I've never driven on that bridge, but some bridges around here have some sort of traffic sensors that use X band. Personally I just like to turn X band off on my 8500. There are no police depts around here that still use it, all are now on K or Ka.

I ordered my first Valentine1 a few days ago... before I actually noticed this thread. Heh. I've had a few too many conversations with cops recently (all warnings, thankfully), and the situational awareness this thing gives you is amazing. Got the chance to drive a friends 330Xi with V1 for a while and started to feel like I was driving blind in my 6. The mute button is nice though, :) sometimes I just don't need all the darn beeping. I also went in for the remote display, so all the info can be right there in front of me.

Out of boredom, I browsed through several of Mike Valentine's many patents on this technology and was really impressed. The amount of processing they pack into those little boxes is crazy. A whole lot of work on their part to give us a few extra seconds of warning, definitely a worthwhile investment. Just need a good laser jammer and I'll be set. :P

The cops here are too broke to afford laser guns. I have only heard the laser warning go off once and that was by the airport where they probably use lasers for something.

I just cross my fingers when it comes to lasers.

I was marveling this AM when my Val 1 picked up a stationary radar unit (you know the ones that read out your speed when you pass them) for about 1.5 miles..........from the rear. I would love to borrow a Passport 8500 and compare the two in this spot, becasue it is a great test, but in my experience, the Passport would probably give me half that range from the rear, if that. Maybe I will see if I can borrow a Passport from someone and do this test.

They have those at every construction zone here in Ga, I've learned to ignore it because its on X band. Its funny though to see everyone else slowing down.
