Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys. Been busy.

First, JettaJets q...
You have to take the gauge surround off. do this by
Find the 2 screws at the top of the suround holding it on. Remove them.
The bottom is held in by 2 clips... one on each side.
Just pull back on the surround and they will snap out.
Tilt wheel all the way down and telescope it all the way out.
Pull suround out as far as you can and than push it towards the drivers door to sort of
roll it out of the dash. You will see what i mean when you do it.
Once that is out of the way, you will see i think 2 screws holding the gauge cluster in.
take those out and then the gauges are free to be taken out of the dash.
You will see 2 plugs on top of the cluster; one on the left side and another on the
right. the wire you need to cut is on the left plug. it is green with a red stripe.
cut that, tape off exposed wires, and put everything back together the same way
you took it part.

Now for 1Hot6...
I think the green "headlight on" light is only used with the electro gauges because they act pretty independent of the headlights... not like the regular gauges that only light up when lights are on. This way you can easily see if your lights are on. I could be wrong about this though having never driven or been in a car without the electro gauges.

itbeanew1, I pulled out the cluster, and I see no green wire with a red stripe on the left side, or the right side. There's a green wire on the left side with an orange stripe. Is that what you meant to say? I don't want to cut anything until I know for sure.

Nevermind. I found the proper wire and cut it. Works beautifully. While I had the gauge cluster out, I went ahead and drilled holes and mounted my LEDs which indicate which, if either, of my aftermarket fog lights are on. They're behind the plastic cover, which gives them a very stock appearance.

It was a green wire with a red stripe, just not on the LEFT side. It was on the RIGHT side.
