Auto down for all windows?

If you were to replace the other three switches on the drivers door to the same switch as the drivers power window switch, would they all be auto down?

Has anyone tried this?

My gut feeling is that it wouldn't work by just switching out all the switches to the drivers one. There will be some extra wiring work to get it right.

Besides... mazda says that you shouldn't roll down more than 2 windows at any one time to reduce strain on the motors.

Your idea won't work. I've already taken apart one switch unit from a door panel I bought off of eBay for this very reason. The circuit for the auto down is on the circuit board for the entire window switch control. It's not like other switches in which the auto up/down is integrated into the switch itself.

Doesn't each window have their own motors? So the rear passenagers shouldn't roll down the window while you roll down yours? Or do you mean from the driver side control?

I think he meant the current draw could overload the curcuitry. All the power windows are wired through the same fuse block, the current draw when you are putting down a window is so great your headlights dim ever so slightly.

Correct...

An even easier way to notice is to try putting down all 4 windows at the same time.. It takes a while for them to get down compared to doing them one at a time. While this is probably the case for many new cars... but because Mazda has all 4 windows on the same fuse block it becomes a liability for a fuse to blow if there were auto down for all 4 windows. I would have liked to see driver and passenger auto-down.. but I can live with what I have.

i agree. although i'd like auto up too. but i see the safety hazards it would impose.

i want windows with strong enough motors to cut of heads or other body parts that may have been stuck in the window at time of hitting the button. Have a turbo up/down mode for guillotine mode =)
but that's just my sick world

well i don't have wiring diagram book or know if its even in there, but if the driver side has its own circuit to allow autodown, just buy that circuit board and wire it to the other switches/windows for passenger or what not. I'm sure though that they charge arm and a leg for the boards for those
