Stock Mazda Anti-Theft System

I have a 2003, Mazda 6s with sports package and just about every option available. If I sit in it to listen to music and don't immediately crank the car, but just sit there for a little while, when I turn the key forward to crank it, nothing happens. Is this part of the anti-theft system? If I take the key out, lock the car, then unlock it, it cranks right up. Anyone with any information, PLEASE give it to me so I don't have to put it in the shop in the morning.

btw, don't give me the "search" BS.

Well, this morning my car wouldn't start when I got in, so I tried just hitting unlock on the remote to see if that would allow it to start, but it didn't. I took the key out and put it back in and it cranked. What is wrong?

I guess it isn't part of the anti-theft system because my system is unplugged and the car is still working find! Plus, I don't remember seing any wire going to the starting mecanism when I watch the wring diagram...

I suggest you go to the dealer ASAP!

hey i have been having the same problem when the key cannot turn at all no matter how hard i try. To resolve i remove the key relock the car and then hit unlock again.....i can get the car started but there is still a little resistance when i got to turn the key still and have to turn pretty hard.

hope somone could figure this out too...i am sure it has to do with the security system. on some cars if you hit the right combo of buttons on the remote it will cause the ignition to get put in this mode

The only time I have seen the ignition not allow the key to turn is when you lock your steering wheel after getting out

Jotto 's problem is that the steering is locked, no like the problem mentionned before here. Jotto, try an shake youre steering wheel while pushing the key, it should do it. Nothing related to the lock and unlock you pressed.

is your batt dying? also in the Manual your keys have some kind of signal in'em and you can only use the right set of keys (black/grey) for that car, otherwise it wont crank.
its under the Immobilizer part of the Manual. it said some things may interfere with the signal, like a key ring over the top of the key (instead of hanging loose).

also there maybe something else i read in the Manual but am to lazy to get the Manual in the car (its 4am).

thats all i can come up with.

in my old camry'88 i had this same problem, but i found that my key/ignition was worn out, i think it was the key since it looked worn out. i had to replace the key/ignition. it was like i won the lotto when it did crank after 2-5 times. luckly i never had to be in a situation where i needed to get out of some place fast.

also if your engine isnt on the stero will drain the batt, but not quickly. just FYI.

My battery is fine as far as I know. It doesn't do it very often anymore, only about once every few weeks, so it's not really an annoyance anymore. I may get it checked out by the dealer after school lets out cause then I can live to be without a car for a day or two.
