HID Question

Hello,

I just got my 6 last month and I can't wait to do something to it. I decided to go with HID upgrade first. :cool

What color temperature should I go for if I want OEM look? I can't seem to find a actual picture of Xenon Depot's kit on their site? I want to know what I am buying before I make the purchase. Can anyone help?

I have read a lot of good thing about Xenon Factory's kit on this forum. Is their kit worth the extra money? How about Bright Star's? Or maybe I should just go for the kits on eBay and save some money.

Any suggestions? TIA.

Don't go Ebay as you never know what you're gonna get. I've heard good and bad about Bright Star. XenonDepot or XenonFactory are the best bet. I'm sure this'll get locked so you can IM me on AIM: ih8urCivic and I'll try to help you out as much as I can.

both those places are the only that we really know of here...

both kits are philips bulbs rebased by a 2nd mfg to fit the H1 low beams...you dont need HID highbeams or HID foglight...thats too much light on the road...

both kits run off your +12 on the battery and use the factory wiring as a relay switch...no need to worry about frying factory wiring...brightstar connects and runs off the factory wiring, so there is question as to how safe those are...

4100k is a pure, bright white (maybe a slight blue tinge)
6000k is blusish and put out 20% less light that 4100k, but still put out alot of light...these tend to cost $100 more than 4100k probably cause of "the look"

depot's kit uses 1 relay for both ballasts and factory's kit uses 2 relays for each ballast. this doesn't really matter, it only makes diagnosing a problem easier(such as a faulty ground)

depot's 4100k kit is still on special right now at $420 while factory's is $500....both are of pretty much equal quality....the extra $$$ for factory's buys you a 3 year warrenty while depot only offers 1 year...since these are quality kits, the bulbs will probably for 5 years anyway...

this kind of stuff i don't mind advising about cause the subject isn't beatin yet...like intakes...

Thank you very much for the input.

I found this on eBay and they claim they use Philips bulbs as well. What is the difference between this kit and Xenon Depot's kit? They look quite similar other than the packaging but the price is quite a bit lower.

For that ebay price, i'd suggest you got the route of Xenon Depot's kit. They are one of our sponor's and can help you out here. Give them a call or PM them.

Yeah, I agree with dawei. You never know what you're gonna get on Ebay. Even if it says the kit is warranted, when/if you do have a problem, the company has magically disappeared. Definitely go with either XenonDepot or XenonFactory. Both companies have raised prices since I bought my kit, but I chose the XenonFactory over the 'Depot kit just because of the longer warranty.

just removed the bumper for the first time to install PIAA H3's into my sport-fogs....very easy removal and replacing...can't wait to do it again for my HIDs!!!

I may write up an all-inclusive set of instructions for everyone here and on mazda6tech once my kit finally arrives...
