2004 HID and Nav System Options

Does anyone know if the HID lights option on the 2004 models will be a factory installed option or a dealer installed option? I assume that the 2004 models will be a straight carryover from the 2003 model, so compatability (i.e., headlight housing, etc.) shouldn't be a problem, right?

Anyone know if this is the same with the Navigation system?

My dealership has messed up on my "order" 3 times now and I've been waiting for 5 months, so I've asked for a refund. This has basically left me scrambling to get a car from another dealership. Now I have to decide whether to pick up a 2003 or wait for a 2004. I'd like those 2 options on my car, and depreciation on the vehicle isn't a big issue for me because I'll probably keep the car for about 5 years. SO, if I can get those 2 options installed after the fact, I'm going to pick up a car now rather than later.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Amadeus,

I wrote to Mazda recently in regards to the HID option on the 2004 models and I have cut and paste their response to my email below. Feel free to contact them and verify this if you wish in regards to nav because I do not know about that.

Hello Ken,

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

At this time Mazda does not have any plans to make the HID headlights
available for the 2004 model MAZDA6.

I am pleased you took the time to bring your suggestion regarding HID
headlights to our attention. Consumer feedback is always very important
to Mazda. Certainly, we want to offer exciting vehicles, and comments
such as yours help us to achieve that goal.

Rest assured I have documented your suggestion for our corporate
record. These records are continuously being reviewed by our Product
Planning Department in an effort to provide only the highest quality
products to our customers.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. If for any reason this response has not completely
satisfied you, please feel free to reply to this message. You may also
contact our Customer Assistance Center toll-free at 1-800-222-5500.

Hmmm...I could've said it shorter:

"Nope."

Or better yet, the long translation...

"No. We have no intention of offering them despite your requests, but thanks for wasting your time. The collaborative Japanese marketing agreement says that we will only offer these features in high end cars for the USA such to exploit owners. Only domestic buyers of Japan get all the options all the time. Should have thought twice about the a-bomb. Now, if you get over here and take care of Korea's nuclear program, we might make an exception."

HID and NAV will not be available for the '04 US-spec Mazda6. This can be confirmed by looking at the '04 Mazda6 pricing PDF at MazdaUSA.

Now here's the killer, NAV and HID will be available for the '04 US-spec Mazda3 (go to MazdaUSA->upcoming vehicles->Mazda3 and check out the flash presentation).

Why not just buy an aftermarket NAV?

Ugk... I just personally like it when everything looks "stock" --- at least, inside the cabin. Besides that, I'm S-Plan, so I'd be able to get it for dealer invoice and no labor charges. I *am* open to the aftermarket NAV system, but I'd probably have to get my friends at the shop to do some custom work to make it look like it was "meant to be in my car."

Speaking of the Mazda3, I think it looks pretty tight, although I think the Proteges have a more sporty look to them. The new 3 design reminds me a little bit of an Audi --- which, for me, makes it look like a "slow" car.

Az... thanks for the info. It's too bad we won't be getting them, eh?

Amadeus, it is too bad. As we all know it is the same ol story about not getting the good stuff from Japan.

Also, dealer NAV tends to be MUCH better than aftermarket, unless you spend a LOT of money. The systems are faster and better integrated.

But yeah its weird that the 3 will have HID and the 6 won't... just as the Focus does right now.
