Fix for dimming red gauges when headlights on

Have you ever noticed if you have mazda 6s w/ sport package that when you have to use your headlights in daytime rain or bad weather, the red gauges get hard to see because they auto dim w/ headlights turned on. If you push the button with pic of lightbulb on your dash between the engine temp and RPM gauges it adjusts back to the brighter setting so you can see again! to cancel the action just push the button again. Just though I would post because I didn't know that. I read it in the manual yestrday and tried it and worked. Big help. Wish someone at the dealership would of told me that.

Hmmm...I can't say mine auto dim when the lights turn on. Interesting. And I do have the electroluminescent gauges.

davecoyne....if your lights are on, and the guage doesn't dim, depress the little button sticking out of the guage cluster...the guages should then dim, and at that point you can utilize the little scrolling dimming thing off on the left side of the steering wheel to dim the guages more or less.

It took me a while to figure that out too.

For a while, I couldn't read my gauges while drive in the rain. MD law requires lights on when raining, I believe.

For me, the setting brighness stays on.

If you have the sport package which comes w/ illuminescent gauges. It does the dimming thing. So as soon as you turn your lights on it auto dims the gauges because at night you don't need them so bright. But in bad weather in the daytime this feature sucks. Makes the gauges hard to see. So having that buttom is a definate help. especially in NJ where the same law applies in bad weather. Also the car holds the setting which is nice so everytime I start up the car it is still set to the brighter setting. Unless I cancel it.

Lights in almost every car on the road dim when you turn your headlights on... this is not unique to the 6.

True, but in most cars the gauges aren't lit when the lights aren't on. Therefore, they don't get any "darker"... if anything they get slightly easier to see (depending on ambient light)...

I agree that it is... obnoxious in the 6. No doubt about it. Was just sayin.
