Is a Short Ram Air Intake worth it?

I heard it reduces low end power significantly, if that’s the case I don’t want it. But what are your guys’ experience with one?

Just adding an intake will give your butt dyno a few more HP, but not much more beyond that TBH. It'll sound nicer when you get up on it, but it's not really going to change anything.

SRIs only have a little trouble when it's very warm out because it will be sucking in more hot engine air than a CAI or stock - not preferable - though that's not as much of an issue with the 3rd gen as the previous 2 V6 gens because they ran quite hot in a crammed space.

For daily driving, aftermarket intakes are rarely "worth it". At best, you might get a handful of hp and torque, but possibly also at the expense of reduced hp/torque elsewhere along the power band. In which case, you've gained nothing. Pay attention to the entire rpm range. It's all about the area under the curve, not the peaks.

At worst, a short ram intake will be sucking in hot air from the engine bay. If you also run a less restrictive filter, you could shorten the life of your MAF sensor.

The most noticeable difference will be the un-muffled intake noise, which can sound pretty cool.

Unless it's a blast furnace under the hood, I've never heard of a SRI making a unmistakably large reduction in power, no matter what the revs.

They DO allow more intake noises, which can either be a positive or negative, depending on who you are.

You MAY notice stronger acceleration in certain areas of the rev range.

And depending on the design/brand, you may either get slightly better or slightly worse fuel economy, but I think it's more on how you drive it than the SRI itself.

My opinion... is that if you are looking to increase any type of HP or TQ you're wasting your money.

So you would say it's not worth the cost?

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I probably won't get it.

Overall though you'd say it's not worth the cost?

It depends on what YOU personally think is too expensive for a little extra intake noise under the hood and maybe a little more pull at certain revs.

Personally, I wouldn't go over $250.

Also, if there's a CAI that's similarly priced, I'd take that instead.

Higher roller than I am lol. I wouldn't go over $150 because that's the baseline for the ones that come with air diverters to trick the MAF (if you're getting a bigger one for more airflow).

Personally, not worth the money to me but you do you! Plenty of people buy them and love them because they add that little bit more growl.
