my mazda 6 started itself?

here's what happened today.
i was driving with a friend.
we parked near restaurant and turned the car off.
we got off car, i closed the door first and as i walk to the restaurant, my friend closed his door, and it made beep noise (i think it did)
we went into restaurant and had dinner.
after dinner we came back out walked to the car and the headlight was on! and the engine was on as well with ac running.
i am so lost here. what did happen to the car??
im sure my 2018 mazda 6 don't have remote start. anyone have any idea what could happen there??

Either you didn't turn the car off, or you hit the starter button again as you left the car.

Especially if this is your first push button start/stop car very likely. Happened to me.

The reason you heard it beep is because you were leaving the car with the fob and the engine running.

Anytime you hear a beep, especially an unexpected one, stop and double check everything. The car is trying to tell you something.

Slight clarification here - the car always beeps when you lock it (default setting anyway). If it beeps more than twice then the car is trying to tell you something like the car is still running or you left a keyfob in the car.

When you exit the car and close all the doors, if you hear a single beep that is the car confirming all doors are closed and ready to be locked.

If instead you hear a rapid beepbeep-beepbeep-beepbeep sound, that means the engine is still running or the accessories are on.

This car is ultra quiet at idle when its warmed up. I also did something similar once before I got into the habit of parking the car in gear (manual) where I pulled the e-brake, went to pick up take-out, and came back to a running car. I thought I turned it off, but apparently not!

As a side note, you can totally drive off without the key in this thing. I once drove about 500 feet away from my key because I accidentally left it in the mail box and had to turn around and get it. The car was moving for at least a minute or two with no key, plenty of time for someone to run off with it! I know it has an immobilizer, but I'm not sure how long/far you can drive before it turns off your car.

The car will run until shut off without a key in it. It will complain with a flashing light on the dash but it will run.
