Finally got the Android Auto/Apple Car Play upgrade at the dealer

From what I've read, there's a software update and they have to replace the usb hub in the armrest so it provides 2.1 amp. So there's also hardware to upgrade.

In Canada, the price is around 443$

There's a special limited time offer for the 2018 produced before September at 250$. Until February 2019.

Here's the link :
https://www.mazda.ca/en/inside-mazda...-android-auto/

I negociated my upgrade for free when I bought the car last month.

Sorry I don't have the info for the USA.

I've had no issues connecting. It's definitely a few seconds slower to resume audio playback, but not a huge difference. From the info I've read, connectivity issues are often related to bad cables.

For what it's worth, I'm using a Pixel 2, with USB-C. I'm using third-party cables, but they're reasonably high quality and haven't given me any issues.

You had to pay to get the upgrade? I bought my car in July without it and the dealer actually asked me to come in so they can install it for free. I thought CP/Android auto was a recall for these cars?

Well the dealer didn't ask me to pay for it, but it was part of what I asked to get for free when I bought the car. I wanted to be sure to get it... And they accepted right away.

Just got my 6 back today with the AA/CP update plus a bunch of warranty work, so I didn't mind paying what seems to be on the higher end to have it dealer installed. No touchscreen for AA is definitely a bummer, but I'm sure I'll get used to navigating by voice or the commander knob soon enough. Mainly I'm trying to figure out why the only audio app I could get to work was Spotify - Amazon Music and SiriusXM just went to blank screens and I couldn't make the hamburger icon in the upper left corner activate, and Pandora just had a spinning circle that never went anywhere. Didn't try Stitcher as I don't use that.

Be sure to use a good quality cable with Android auto or apple carplay.

It made a difference for me going from a cheap 1$ cable vs. an original cable that came with the phone.

Yes, you can listen to any of the audio sources while in Maps on Android Auto. Carplay should be the same way.

Yes you can.

I've just done some basic tests with Android Auto and Apple Car Play in my driveway and you can listen to FM or XM while using Google Maps or Waze. Tested on a Canadian 2018 Mazda6 GT (GTR in USA?), iPhone 7 and Google Pixel XL.

It was the first time I tried AA on this car and it worked well. I use Apple Car Play daily.

My usual setup is Spotify for the music and Waze for navigation.

So people have been talking about the android auto, and the car play. My question is, did they alter anything else with the default system? Our maps on our SD card still work, etc?

Thanks!
