1st non-dealer oil change.

I bought my 2006 (Mazda6) in 2007 and had it serviced at the dealership. I just started to work on the car myself, and used a Purolator One filter and Castrol GTX Ultraclean oil.

The dealer always used GTX and I thought it was a 50/50 synthetic blend. On Castrol's web site, they don't really list a 50/50 product.

I moved to a new part of the country; the dealer that changed the oil 3,000 miles ago used a Mazda filter but Motorcraft Synthetic Blend oil.

What's the exact factory correct oil? And is the Purolator One a better filter than the oem AJTM-14-302?

1st non-dealer oil change.

As for the filter I use the motorcraft fl820s and I have heard it is a REALLY good filter the only filters I would NEVER use are fram and supertech they are terrible. For oil my personal preference is full synthetic but as long as you use the proper weight (5w-20 for the v6) you can use what ever brand you want you just get a longer interval with synthetic

The filter I use is a WIX brand and use mobile 1 synthetic 5w 20. I usually change it at about 5 to 7k miles. Knowing myself, I put a 3k miles on the sticker I use on the glass and then usually get to it at about 5 to 7k. I know if i put it at 5k it wouldn't get changed till 8 or more.

Honestly, using the correct weight and getting the oil changed at regular intervals are way more important than what brand you use. I generally use Purolator Pureone filters as well, but sometimes with grab another good filter if it's on sale as long as it's not Fram.

The car now has 99,750 miles. I'm considering the new Castrol Magnatec but because I was told, the proper oil is a 50/50 blend, I'd like that (not so easy to find this oil (if it ever existed at all.))

I can see a small amount of wear on the cam lobes. Not sure how much is too much.

I too use the well-reviewed Motorcraft fl820s. For oil, whatever high-mileage full synthetic is on sale.

Manual transmissions, wagons, and heavy metal are awesome. Zoom-Zoom \m/

The don't call them "Pure One" anymore. It's now just "One." I was confused by that just the other day.

Pure One was an excellent name for a filter.
