Money is money my friend. They probably made the decision to do this facelift and fit the 2.5t over 18 months ago, when they were selling 3 TIMES AS MANY 6's.

Yeah, due to the CX-5. Putting more money into the 6 just takes away dollars from developing more profitable CUV's and future-proofing electrics.

I'm not saying I want it to happen or that it will happen, just that I wouldn't be shocked.

I'm with Ghost on this. Mazda has already made the investment in the 2018 and arguably waning sales can be related to the news of a new 6 coming out. Might they reduce manufacturing volume until they see a sales increase? Sure. Given that Mazda's manufacturing builds all skyactiv models on one line, they can easily increase or decrease 6 production for CX5 production if necessary. It maybe a different story if there was one line devoted to the 6.

Personally I think the improvements will give the 6 increased sales against Accord and Camry, but I'm not so sure about the Audi's and Infiniti's of the world given the lack of AWD. IMO

Yeah part of me is really excited about the paint, the other part of me would be worried about durability and color-matching such a vibrant color. Things don't stay new for ever. :-)

Expensive to repair, too, in case of bumper scrapes, door scratches, or heaven forbid being keyed.

It's a nonsense argument, IMO. Applying your logic about model sales numbers and buyer preference for the SUVs, Mazda should cut the CX-3 and the Miata before they cut the 6. In fact, phase out all models except the CX-5 and CX-9 and bet everything on black.

Sure, but breathtakingly beautiful and nicer to own in every other circumstance. Personally, I wouldn't be dissuaded from choosing the color because it's a little more expensive (in the greater scheme of things) than blander colors. But then again, I don't shy away from buying nicer cars in the first place because I might get into an accident some day and the cars would be more expensive to repair.

That's interesting. I thought they were further away from introducing that engine.

The last picture in the gallery here shows an MT in what looks like a brown leather Signature console. You have to view the pictures and go to the last one, which does not show in the preview:
