Money is money my friend. They probably made the decision to do this facelift and fit the 2.5t over 18 months ago, when they were selling 3 TIMES AS MANY 6's.
Yeah, due to the CX-5. Putting more money into the 6 just takes away dollars from developing more profitable CUV's and future-proofing electrics.
I'm not saying I want it to happen or that it will happen, just that I wouldn't be shocked.
I'm with Ghost on this. Mazda has already made the investment in the 2018 and arguably waning sales can be related to the news of a new 6 coming out. Might they reduce manufacturing volume until they see a sales increase? Sure. Given that Mazda's manufacturing builds all skyactiv models on one line, they can easily increase or decrease 6 production for CX5 production if necessary. It maybe a different story if there was one line devoted to the 6.
Personally I think the improvements will give the 6 increased sales against Accord and Camry, but I'm not so sure about the Audi's and Infiniti's of the world given the lack of AWD. IMO
