That's not the street price though which is likely 30% off that which makes it quite competitive with the corksport and RB units for what you get!
Somebody pondering a bolt on axleback exhaust should jump all over this. Just find an existing vendor of Tanabe products onlin with good prices and they should be able to order it for you as it is likely drop shipped anyways.
I'm just gonna wait for a sound clip. I love the deep notes of the RB but the Corksport and MagnaFlow is a little too raspy for me. Just put on my K&N Intake yesterday and it sounds GREAT!
It was a paint to get the K&N Typhoon shipped to CA since it isn't CA legal... :|
That sounds nice. The best sounding mass production exhaust so far, to my ears. Has that pleasing buzz without being raspy. I wish they did a cold start and interior though. Plus it didn't sound like the engine was at full load, maybe because of the automatic.
Unless something better comes out I'll get this... In a few years haha
ah glad someone else got it and posted it. I don't feel bad for being too busy lately
The best part is how silent it is inside the cabin at highway speeds. Sounds completely stock.
Hey! That's my car! Thanks for posting. I do like how it sounds and looks. Sounds deep on cold startup. Can hardly hear it while driving. I don't have any other mods. Looking into an intake. Which one does everyone recommend?
Also, what was the cost for the exhaust, and the cost of installation? I usually do installs myself, but I don't know how hard it will be to do this one on my own (no lifts).
Wow It seems I have been off the forums for too long.
I have been running the Tanabe exhaust on my 2014 for maybe close to 2 years now and I have to say its probably my favorite part on my car. Looks way better than stock and theres no drone or rasp, just a subtle tone.
They originally did the R&D on my car so I have the first one.
Install is super easy too.
Sorry I know I should have done sound clips as soon as I received it but I was under the impression that Tanabe had taken images and video of it when they did the install.
Think it would be possible to install it in a driveway with a standard jack? Or does it need to go up on a lift? Also, any chance we can get a group buy together? :smile2:
There isn't enough demand for more companies to develop exhausts for our cars. Only small niche companies like CorkSport, RB, Tanabe, etc. This is a family sedan after all
I just got the Medalion installed last night. I can hardly notice a difference in cabin noise and it's far too cold to run around with the windows down right now, but it seems to sound nice when I really listen for it. I did, however, notice an immediate improvement in low-end torque. It's not going to burn up any tires or anything, but it definitely makes it easier to get going from a light with the MTX.
I opted to paint the cans/brackets black as I don't like the look of the exhaust (stock or aftermarket) hanging out from under the black trim on the back. I didn't try to make it pretty -- just scuffed it up with some 200 grit sandpaper and applied several light coats of some higher temp engine enamel. Time will tell how well it holds up, but it looks great so far. I'll have to add a pic from the rear of the car to see what I mean.
I also grabbed this pic when I finished installing because I thought it looked cool with the reflection from the work light under the car:
One more note for @solar365
I weighed it against the OE exhaust and both were 36lbs, so no weight reduction here. It is worth noting, though, that this was the first one of it's kind in the US (bought it used from @RogerMZ6 that they prototyped with) so it may be heavier than what they went to production with.
Not to resurrect an old thread, but this is the axle back I am considering. I already have all the other Tanabe pieces on my car. I can get it for $564 shipped. I wish I could find more sound bites though.
