Sounds like you need a new purge valve. Its located on the firewall & costs about $40 on ebay.

I believe @Tj_Blaire bought his from ebay.

Hey, if that valve doesn't fix it - look through this. It explains how it works and steps to correct one which doesn't. Get it while the getting it good!

I have an 04 Mazda 6 3.0L and I have checked on the firewall, behind, and all around the TB. The two I have found looked nothing like the one in my hand. The Evap canister & purge pump are right next to the tank. Follow the gas fill down to the filler door. Should be in there somewhere. The leak detection pump woulda been spendy. What did you buy? Pic and PN please!

You did see the other valve on the firewall. The purge purge solenoid valve is tucked up under cowl on the right front by the shock tower. Its a PITA to get too. Replaced mine once but not with the "latest model" (for noise). It makes the same noise after a couple months.

I am very new to the whole forum thing and have no idea how to post pics yet. Dorman 911-701 is the part they gave me.... It looks exactly like the the eBay item "Tj_Blaire" posted. I did see the one on the firewall and the one next to the intake tube... Im throwing code P0443. Is this valve even the right one for this problem or do i need one of the two mentioned under the hood?

TJ, you replace yours due to noise, the thumper at low speed? Or did it actually fail and cause a code?

OEM part is: PN: L3P9-18-740B VALVE, SOLE

As for it fixing the P0443 - Evaporative emission control system purge control valve circuit malfunction // Purge solenoid valve circuit problem

I'm guessing it unplugged or something. Pinched or broken wire. I suspect you can apply 12v to it and test it. I don't have time to dig any further. Do search assuming gas cap is tight and no leaks.

Thats the thumper valve we all hate. Its up on cowl, hidden and makes noise. Wouldn't suprise me if someone unplugged its thumper @ss to make it stop. It can sound like a major mechanical problem when all it is is a valve cycling off and on. It Pathetic!

Its all top side under the hood to the left of the AC lines. Set your face on the engine and look under the lip and you see some hoses and wires. Its a joy to get to.

I would pull it and blow through it both ways. Then apply 12v and repeat. Although you're hear and feel it clunk when power is applied.
It comes on above idle speed, engine hot, car moving.
