Given a 2004 Mazda 6 i

So as the title says I was given a mazda 6 i, with 70K miles on it. It's in very good condition and I know it was maintained very well (elderly owner). However I find it to be a quick little car and would love to throw some cash at it. Any must have upgrades/mods? Thinking CAI and muffler. Maybe a body kit to make it look like the sport? What do you guys think?

Welcome to the forum!

Congrats on your acquisition.

For the 4-cylinder, the best things to start with are certainly an intake and some exhaust if you want that extra bit of power.

Body kits get very expensive very quickly, but to each his own. For a GREAT guide on this, head here: http://forum.mazda6club.com/exterior...ip-thread.html

Toss up some pics of the ride and we'll be happy to make suggestions to spruce it up and make it real sporty

Cool, thanks. I found a body-kit that I really like. The Duraflex Bomber. What do you guys think? I'm in the process of selling an old Camaro to clear up a spot to put that Mazzy. I'm really excited about the Mazda. Someone is going to get a hell of a deal on that Camaro. I will put up some pics as soon as the car is home

To each his own, but I'm not a fan of that kit at all. Then again, I'm not a fan of most kits

We all have our opinions, so if you like it don't let mine sway you. Most of the forum-goers here try to stick with a nice clean look that keeps it sporty.

I can certainly respect that. If I had the S version of the 6, I would have little interest in modifying the body. The sedan is just so....sedan-y.

Just buy the sport bumpers and side skirts - makes them look like a whole different car. Here's mine: 2005 6i GT with the Sport Package and Speed6 Wheels

That does look really nice. I may have to look around and see if I can find the sport package for cheap. Also, what are the general opinions around here on "plasti-dip" or "rubber-dip" paint jobs?

Plasti-dip is up to you. WE've got a few members on here who dipped the whole car and it looks pretty sweet.

@DisplacedMainah dipped his Blurple and it even stood up to a heck of a collision (moron side swiped him) but the dip held on great.

Can't find any photos of it though.

Welcome to the forum.

That looks like the kit every civic ran with a decade ago. Save the money and try to find the factory skirts and lip.

As far as plasti dip, it can look great and serve its purpose, but it can also look horrible. Depends on body parts you put it on, technique/tools used, etc. I've PDd my stock wheels then clearcoated them and they turned out awesome.

Also check you local laws too...they (cops) get funny if you change the color of your car (even if it's not permanent) and it doesn't match what's on the title.

Cops here in Ohio vary based on location - some of the small towns get funny about window tint and others don't seem to care. Same goes for colors.
